Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED, equivalent work experience, and trade or technical school classes are required.
  • Must have passed Tech Skills Level 5 with a score of 80% or better.
  • Must hold a valid Environmental Protection Agency certificate.
  • Must have at least five years of experience in commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, refrigeration, and electrical work.
  • Must have basic knowledge of refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, ice machines, gas furnaces, and electrical systems.
  • Must understand single systems and rack systems and have previous experience working on display cases and walk-in boxes.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot a Copeland compressor, a blown control circuit fuse, an oil failure control, and a Copeland Demand Cooling control.
  • Must have knowledge of solid-state controls and devices, proper pressure settings, supermarket receivers and their proper levels, and hot-gas versus Kool-gas defrost systems.
  • Must be able to identify and describe the functions of major energy management system components and understand reverse osmosis and analog input boards and their addressing requirements.
  • Must be able to use a suction data log and understand case lineups with electric defrost circuits and walk-in freezer boxes.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proper personal protective equipment and safety equipment use.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds without assistance and sit or stand for several hours at a time.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Must be able to understand and follow company policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Must be able to use typical business tools, including email, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be able to work at heights using ladders or scissor lifts and perform strenuous physical labor in field conditions.
  • Must be able to work around refrigeration and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, extreme cold from refrigerant, high heat from brazing, inclement weather, dust, and elevated noise levels while following required personal protective equipment and safety practices.
Responsibilities
  • Report to work on time as scheduled by the supervisor.
  • Repair and overhaul compressors, water pumps, air handlers, electrical and mechanical control devices, and similar machinery.
  • Test malfunctioning systems and components using electrical and mechanical skills.
  • Maintain legible corporate and personal work-history records.
  • Perform general repairs on refrigeration, heating, and ventilation equipment, including air-conditioning units, evaporative condensers, ice machines, water pumps, gas furnaces, compressors, and electric motors.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and diagnose equipment malfunctions and operating efficiency of mechanical equipment.
  • Perform minor construction and remodeling work, including startups of new installations.
  • Provide guidance to junior technicians.
  • Ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of refrigeration equipment for commercial and industrial clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Experience working on refrigeration equipment in convenience stores or supermarkets is a strong plus.
