Requirements
  • A College of Nurses of Ontario Certificate of Registration in good standing is required.
  • An RPN diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A current CPR certificate is required.
  • A medication administration course is required.
  • Excellent physical assessment skills are required.
  • At least one year of recent medical experience within a hospital setting is required.
  • Ongoing professional education in a related clinical area is required.
  • Knowledge of discharge planning and appropriate use of community resources is required.
  • Ability to work in a patient-centered, multidisciplinary team environment is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and negotiating skills are required.
  • The candidate must be intravenous-therapy trained and certified, or willing to obtain certification within six months of hire.
  • The candidate must demonstrate familiarity with monitoring patients receiving blood products.
  • The candidate must demonstrate psychosocial skills and relevant experience providing supportive emotional care to patients and their families or significant others from all cultural backgrounds.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • All staff must have received all required doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada, subject to applicable accommodation requirements.
  • The successful external applicant must provide an applicable criminal record check when requested by Human Resources, in accordance with federal and provincial legislation.
Responsibilities
  • Participate as a key member of the Medicine Team in delivering patient-centered health care.
  • Perform treatments and procedures, patient assessments, monitoring, interdisciplinary reporting, and documentation of changes in patients’ overall states.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living.
  • Provide patients and families with relevant information and education.
  • Apply nursing knowledge and the Three Factor Framework to manage the full scope of practice for patient care.
  • Perform duties involving sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and bending.
Desired Qualifications
  • Telemetry and/or oncologic and palliative nursing experience is preferred.
  • Experience and demonstrated ability in CADD pump maintenance, or willingness to obtain it within six months of hire, is preferred.
  • Knowledge, experience, and competence in managing complex pain and symptoms related to disease processes and palliation are preferred.
  • Experience with Meditech system modules is preferred.
