  • A Doctoral trained candidate with a preference for a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree.
Responsibilities
  • Serves as the Parkland Health executive medical expert in Clinical and Health Systems Research. A specific area of interest is research that addresses the social, economic, and environmental factors that contribute to health disparities and working in implementing programs that promote Health Equity. Presents findings in internal and external publications and presentations. Provides expertise to local and national advisory panels.
  • Advances a Clinical and Health Systems research strategy- including capacity building with UT Southwestern and Parkland Health professional staff. Leverages clinical and health system opportunities to attract funding related to research on health care delivery and outcomes in underserved populations.
  • Implements, monitors goals and objectives to support Parkland Health’s strategic Clinical Research initiatives in collaboration with nursing and administrative leadership.
  • Collaborates with UT Southwestern Medical School and with other external higher education organizations such as schools of public health and universities to develop collaborative research relationships to jointly develop research initiatives.
  • Influences and motivates physicians, clinicians, and other professionals to participate in research initiatives.
  • Develops and supports strategies to increase research enrollment of Parkland patient population and community involvement in research initiatives.
  • Serves and participates on division/hospital wide committees, quality improvement and patient safety activities to ensure discipline representation/participation of area(s) of responsibility. Promotes and supports interdepartmental collaboration and integration, as well as positive working relationships.
  • Collaborates with Population Health to understand the characteristics of the Parkland Health population, distribution, utilization of health services and Community Health Needs Assessment.
  • Identifies opportunities and serves as co-investigator or principal investigator on funded research which aligns with Parkland strategic priorities.
  • Collaborates to develop and facilitate a research mentorship program.
  • Leads and participates in clinical and epidemiologic research that aligns with Parkland’s mission.
  • Contributes to and/or establishes operational, functional, and/or business plans that have short to long term impact on department and/or functional results.
  • Responsible for coaching, leading and mentoring emerging talent and developing the talent pipeline.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three to five years of experience as a medical director is strongly preferred.
  • Experience building relationships with physicians and advanced practice providers at different levels and specialties.
  • Must be currently licensed for the practice of medicine in the State of Texas or must obtain license within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Must meet and maintain licensing and registration requirements as delineated by Parkland Health Medical Staff Bylaws, Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, and Credentialing Policies/Procedures, if any, within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Established track record of successful external funding opportunities and is familiar with external funding opportunities at local, state, and federal levels.
  • Established track record of research publications and presentations at national professional venues.
  • An established record as Principal Investigator in Clinical and/or Population Research.
  • Service with national research organizations such as the National Institutes of Health, American Association of Medical Colleges, and scientific/research societies.
