Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience in manual labor is required.
  • Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of equipment and tools for construction and maintenance tasks is required.
  • Ability and willingness to follow work and safety instructions is required.
  • Ability to complete work under time pressures and maintain composure during emergency situations is required.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to safety requirements and procedures is required.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with owners, owners’ representatives, coworkers, and the direct supervisor is required.
  • The employee must pass a pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • The employee must pass a pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen because the position is safety sensitive.
  • The employee must successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing annually.
  • The employee must regularly lift, carry, push, pull, grasp, climb, kneel, bend, squat, sit, stand, and walk as specified in the physical requirements.
  • The employee must be able to work outdoors in hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet.
  • The employee must be available for a 40-hour work week subject to overtime, on-call work, and alternate shifts including weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
  • The employee must pass color and vision examinations as required by the position.
  • The employee must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
Responsibilities
  • Install and repair railroad track, special track work, road crossings, roadways, and utilities using hand tools, power tools, track machines, and highway trucks equipped with rail guide wheels, hydraulic booms, and lift gates.
  • Remove and replace ties, rails, fasteners, special track work components, railroad ballast, crossing surfaces, paving, subgrade, vegetation, signs, and structures.
  • Work as a member of a crew or independently.
  • Work under the direction of a Railroad Track Foreman or Railroad Track Welder when assigned.
  • Take actions to avoid hazards and obstructions, including utility lines, equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
  • Report all safety violations to the immediate supervisor.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience reading survey layouts is preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English is preferred.
