Requirements
  • The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant must be trained and licensed, meeting the qualifications set forth by the New York State Board of Education and New York State rules and regulations.
  • The candidate must graduate from an approved Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • The candidate must have training certification by the AOTCB and current licensure in good standing with the New York State Board of Education.
  • The candidate must have the physical ability to perform job-related duties, including lifting, bending, stooping, stretching, pulling, and pushing up to 50 pounds or more as needed.
  • The candidate must work well under pressure and be willing to work harmoniously with all staff.
  • The candidate must have a sincere desire to work with elderly, chronically ill, and handicapped individuals.
  • The candidate must have excellent customer service skills.
  • The candidate must be able to communicate well verbally with residents, families, and staff.
  • The candidate must treat residents and fellow staff with respect, dignity, and compassion.
Responsibilities
  • Establish and perform treatment programs for assigned residents.
  • Upgrade goods as appropriate and follow physician order recommendations.
  • Enter billing information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Report resident progress in meetings, including Medicare A meetings, and consult with rehabilitation team members to coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities.
  • Provide residents with equipment as appropriate and inform Social Services of equipment needs at discharge; requisition supplies and equipment.
  • Design and construct special equipment for individuals and suggest adaptations to individuals' living environments.
  • Lay out materials for individual use and return equipment to the appropriate place.
  • Conduct training programs for other workers and families in occupational therapy techniques and objectives for resident care.
  • Chart informative and descriptive notes reflecting the therapy provided and the resident's response to therapy.
  • Perform routine documentation in accordance with established charting and documentation policies and procedures, and sign and date all entries in the resident's medical record.
  • Follow all facility policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of experience in a skilled nursing facility setting is preferred.
