Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of experience with fire and life safety code compliance, service, and maintenance across a broad range of systems
  • At least one year of experience inspecting fire and life safety systems
  • Knowledge of NFPA 80, NFPA 72, and NFPA 25
  • NICET Level I (Fire Alarms) certification required
  • NICET Level II certification preferred
  • Experience working in an institutional or educational environment preferred
  • Experience with IBC codes and NFPA standards preferred
  • Successful Background Check
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license (or equivalent for out-of-state applicants) required
  • Motor Vehicle Records check conducted annually
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol screen
  • Fitness for duty assessment and pre-employment medical exam
  • Child Protective Clearance - Act 153

Responsibilities
  • Conducts daily checks of life safety systems. Coordinate support as required to maintain proper system operation.
  • Coordinate the scheduled Inspection, Testing and Maintenance (ITM) of various life safety systems work performed by contractors, including necessary repairs.
  • Install, and oversee fire and life safety systems for new construction and renovation projects, ensuring compliance with university standards and codes.
  • Manage work orders, investigate issues and set priorities.
  • Oversee contractor performance, review invoices, and manage costs for services related to fire hydrants, extinguishers, alarms, detectors, ANSUL systems, and other life safety equipment.
  • Research, recommend, and procure materials and systems to ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and ADA requirements.
  • Develop and maintain alarm codes, train staff in system use, and coordinate required drills and system tests with the Fire Marshal and local inspectors.
  • Attend staff meetings with Facilities Management Services and participate in problem-solving and project-related discussions.
  • Maintain accurate records, respond to service requests, and provide timely communication on system issues.
  • Complete work utilizing various software programs.
  • Stay current on technology, codes, and industry standards to ensure continuous system reliability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
