Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or higher degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a science-related field meeting the education and training requirements of CFR 493.1489 is required.
  • Candidates must meet CLIA requirements for high-complexity testing.
  • Candidates must meet California testing requirements where required by law or standard operating procedure.
  • Candidates must hold appropriate state licensure and/or certification where applicable.
  • Candidates must possess high-complexity testing competencies required by standard operating procedures, CLIA, and other applicable regulatory and accrediting bodies.
  • Candidates must maintain confidentiality and have proficient computer skills.
  • Candidates must be able to understand, follow, and give precise written and verbal instructions, and perform all activities safely.
  • Candidates must be able to read and comprehend written procedures and instructions.
  • Candidates must be able to perform the physical requirements of the role, including lifting and carrying items up to 40 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine high-complexity testing of biological specimens.
  • Perform assigned duties in compliance with internal standard operating procedures and external regulations, and bring compliance issues to management.
  • Communicate with customers, vendors, and couriers to ensure quality service.
  • Perform routine testing of biological samples and notify appropriate personnel of identified problems.
  • Assist with processing bio-waste, specimens, and microplates.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation, protect donor, patient, and employee confidentiality, and perform document reviews as assigned.
  • Pack and ship supplies and specimens, receive and manage incoming supplies and reagents, and assist with lot changes as directed.
  • Prepare, label, verify, and prequalify reagents; maintain appropriate supply and reagent levels; and notify appropriate personnel when supplies are needed.
  • Operate equipment, monitor for errors, respond appropriately, perform routine preventive maintenance, and identify equipment malfunctions.
  • Resolve routine problems, escalate non-routine issues, and assist with problem investigations.
  • Participate in performance improvement teams and training programs as required.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of equipment and work areas and adhere to safety guidelines.
  • Serve as a resource for corrections and clarification.
  • Analyze, prioritize, and resolve complex equipment or reagent problems; investigate deviations in testing, quality control, and preventive maintenance; and recommend and implement corrective actions as delegated.
  • Assist with competency documentation, records review, and records management.
  • Assist with workflow coordination and review results for proficiency survey sample testing.
  • Escalate applicable issues to vendors and ensure appropriate follow-up and resolution.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to newer staff.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
