EHS Officer

Job Description

Planning & Organizing:

1. Plan, coordinate, and monitor Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the hotel.
2. Recommend improvements in methods, systems, procedures, and safety practices to enhance operational efficiency and workplace safety.
3. Develop and implement annual EHS plans, initiatives, inspections, audits, and awareness programs.
4. Coordinate EHS activities with all departments and ensure timely completion of assigned action plans.
5. Identify potential workplace hazards and establish appropriate preventive and corrective measures.

Operations:

1. Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify hazards, unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and areas requiring corrective action.
2. Ensure that all health, safety, and environmental activities are carried out to the highest professional standards.
3. Complete daily, weekly, and monthly EHS checklists and reports as required.
4. Act immediately on EHS-related issues, hazards, incidents, and concerns and ensure appropriate corrective action is taken.
5. Monitor compliance with hotel policies, procedures, local legislation, and applicable Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
6. Provide guidance, support, and advice to associates and management on Health, Safety and Environmental matters.
7. Conduct safety briefings, toolbox talks, awareness sessions, and EHS campaigns for associates.
8. Be willing to train and instruct associates by sharing relevant knowledge, skills, and safe working practices.
9. Promote and maintain a strong safety culture throughout the hotel by leading by example.
10. Monitor housekeeping standards and ensure that hazards are promptly identified and rectified.
11. Ensure proper use, availability, inspection, and maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
12. Coordinate the selection and appropriate use of PPE and support fit-testing requirements where applicable.
13. Review accident and incident reports, participate in investigations, identify root causes, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
14. Maintain accurate records and statistics related to accidents, incidents, near misses, inspections, audits, and other EHS activities.
15. Analyze EHS statistics and trends and recommend appropriate measures for continuous improvement.
16. Coordinate internal and external Health, Safety and Environmental training programs for associates.
17. Conduct monthly safety and environmental audits and communicate findings to the concerned departments and management.
18. Follow up on audit findings and ensure that corrective actions are completed within the required timelines.
19. Support emergency preparedness activities, drills, and response procedures as required.
20. Monitor workplace safety and ergonomic conditions, including workstation design, equipment, and operational processes.
21. Ensure that defective equipment, unsafe conditions, and potential hazards are immediately reported and appropriately addressed.
22. Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the hotel's Health, Safety and Environmental management systems.
23. Assist in monitoring environmental practices, including waste management, energy conservation, chemical handling, and other environmental initiatives.
24. Monitor and coordinate the implementation of the hotel's drug testing policy and procedures, where applicable.
25. Coordinate and attend EHS meetings, committees, inspections, and related activities and ensure agreed actions are followed up.
26. Establish, review, and maintain written EHS standards, policies, procedures, risk assessments, and guidelines.
27. Ensure that all EHS documentation, records, certificates, permits, and reports are properly maintained and updated.
28. Encourage associates to report hazards, near misses, and unsafe practices and promote proactive safety reporting.
29. Analyze problems and formulate practical solutions to ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and to a high standard.
30. Carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities as assigned by the management.

Administration:

1. Perform all duties in accordance with established hotel standards, policies, procedures, and applicable legal requirements.
2. Maintain accurate and up-to-date EHS records, reports, checklists, inspection findings, training records, and statistics.
3. Prepare and submit EHS reports and updates to the management as required.
4. Attend departmental and EHS meetings, briefings, and training sessions as scheduled.
5. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling EHS-related matters.
6. Demonstrate full cooperation and respect towards colleagues, management, and other departments.
7. Follow the hotel's grooming standards and maintain a professional, friendly, and positive disposition at all times.
8. Maintain good product knowledge and awareness of daily hotel activities where relevant to EHS responsibilities.
9. Ensure continuous professional development by attending relevant training and maintaining awareness of current EHS practices and requirements.
10. Perform any other reasonable administrative duties as assigned by the management.

Qualifications

**Required Qualifications:**

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
• Minimum one year of professional experience in an Environmental Health and Safety Officer role or equivalent position
• Proficiency in computer applications and Microsoft Office Suite
• Demonstrated knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to conduct inspections, audits, and investigations with attention to detail
• Proven capability to develop and implement EHS programs and initiatives

**Preferred Qualifications:**

• Professional certification in Occupational Health and Safety (OHSAS, NEBOSH, or equivalent)
• Experience in the hospitality or hotel industry
• Advanced proficiency in EHS management systems and audit procedures
• Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis
