Requirements
  • An Associate Degree is required.
  • At least two years of similar previous hospital experience is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of electronic health record systems are required.
  • Experience working with Excel is required.
  • Previous SPARCS experience is preferred.
  • The ability to lift 20 pounds and sit for long periods of time is required.
  • Annual education requirements must be completed.
  • Regulatory requirements, including federal, state, local, and accrediting-organization standards, must be maintained.
  • Patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare medical records in the electronic record system for release to regulatory and other requestors.
  • Prepare medical records for insurance audits, including required data analysis and review before submission.
  • Work with the HIM supervisor on projects requiring data entry or processing.
  • Revise admit and discharge dates when necessary.
  • Work with the EMPI team on chart correction.
  • Process cancelled cases and address room and bed charges.
  • Coordinate Master Patient Index corrections, including merges.
  • Prepare medical records for performance improvement studies and service committees while meeting established deadlines.
  • Use the SPARCS reporting system to ensure timely submission of all cases and coordinate and complete corrections.
  • Accept additional assignments.
  • Support and maintain a culture of safety and quality.
  • Maintain productive working relationships within the department and with other departments.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree is strongly preferred.
  • Two or more years of similar previous hospital experience are preferred.
  • Previous SPARCS experience is preferred.
