Position Description:
The Department of History at the University of Louisville seeks a qualified instructor to teach HIST 355: European Ideas and Ideologies for the Spring 2026 semester and IN PERSON ONLY. This course surveys major currents of European thought in the post-medieval era. Possible approaches might include intellectual, political, or cultural ideologies that shaped Europe from the early modern period through the modern era.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in History, with specialization in modern European history (broadly defined).
Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level.
Expectations:
The successful candidate will design a syllabus that meets departmental learning outcomes, provide effective classroom instruction, foster discussion, and fairly assess student work. Candidates must demonstrate a high degree of responsibility, initiative, creativity, and dependability, and the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
Instructors are expected to utilize Blackboard to submit a course syllabus, order textbooks or other reading materials, provide developmentally meaningful feedback, present engaging learning experiences, respond to students in a timely manner, communicate regularly with the designated academic program director, submit final grades within the university deadlines, and comply with other requests as a part-time lecturer, such as completing an attestation and disclosure form and annual performance evaluations.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. The salary is based on a per-credit-hour value. Most courses are three credit hours.
