Requirements
  • A PhD degree undertaken in a related area of science, preferably molecular immunology or genomics.
  • Extensive experience with flow cytometry and analysis, cell sorting, single-cell sequencing, RNA sequencing, whole genome sequencing, polymerase chain reaction, and in-vitro cell assays.
  • Ability to operate independently and develop and troubleshoot assays.
  • PhD and/or postdoctoral research experience leading to publication of high-quality first-author and/or senior-author and multi-author papers.
  • Experience training and mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Ability to develop, manage, and maintain internal and external collaborations and relationships.
  • Highly developed skills in facilitation and meeting leadership.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills.

Responsibilities
  • Select autoimmune diseases for project development, design experiments, and apply fluorescent sorting and single-cell DNA/RNA sequencing methods under supervision.
  • Undertake and direct primary research on samples from patients with human autoimmune diseases using spectral flow cytometry, single-cell index sorting into 384-well plates, single-cell RNA sequencing, single-cell whole genome sequencing, histology, autoantibody expression, and testing for self-reactivity.
  • Prepare research proposals for competitive funding bodies such as the National Health and Medical Research Council, Medical Research Future Fund, and National Institutes of Health as lead or co-investigator.
  • Develop and refine research projects for junior staff and students.
  • Manage and supervise junior staff and students day to day.
  • Propose, participate in, and oversee the design, development, and validation of new assays and foster collaborative efforts with other laboratories, organisations, and companies.
  • Stay abreast of advances in antibody and T-cell receptor repertoire analysis, genomics, and single-cell sequencing technology; maintain knowledge of human immune testing and personalised medicine.
  • Comply with Garvan’s Work Health and Safety policy and management system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Experience in recombinant antibody expression and testing by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
  • Experience in histology, including immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence microscopy.
