Requirements
  • Completion of a two-year Licensed Practical Nurse diploma from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration and good standing with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta.
  • At least one year of customer service experience.
  • Experience using electronic medical record software, such as Med Access.
  • Strong communication, active listening, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong clinical, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in accordance with the Health Information Act and organizational privacy policies.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel.
  • Current CPR certification at the Health Care Provider Basic Life Support level.
  • Vaccine Storage and Immunization training.
Responsibilities
  • Perform clinical interventions and medical procedures authorized by the physician and within the Licensed Practical Nurse's scope of practice, including assisting with minor surgical procedures, pelvic examinations, and intrauterine device insertions and removals.
  • Perform point-of-care testing as ordered by the physician, including urinalysis, blood glucose testing, and pregnancy testing.
  • Administer injections and vaccinations.
  • Apply dressings, tensor bandages, splints, and slings.
  • Remove sutures and staples.
  • Perform ear irrigation.
  • Initiate oxygen therapy under physician direction.
  • Obtain and record vital signs, height, weight, and visual acuity measurements.
  • Assemble and maintain required sterile equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain orderly storage and appropriate disposal of clinic supplies.
  • Adhere to established standards of cleanliness and safety.
  • Greet and register patients professionally and courteously.
  • Schedule appointments and notify patients as required.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for physician assessment as required.
  • Accurately document procedures and interventions in the patient chart.
  • Scan and file patient documentation as required.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute mail and faxes as appropriate.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly assigned chores.
  • Initiate forms, prepare billings, and collect payment for uninsured services.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new staff and students.
  • Maintain an understanding of physician preferences and workflows to provide effective support.
  • Participate in organizational initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
