SP Head of Secondary School and Sixth Form Role Profile Purpose of Role  In common with all members of the Senior Management Team, the Head of Secondary and Sixth Form is responsible for reviewing and revising school policies, and takes a whole school perspective and contributes to the strategic vision and planning of the School’s development.  ISP Principles Begin with our children and students. ISP Head of Secondary School and Sixth Form Key Responsibilities Teaching, Learning and Achievement  ● Be responsible for all MLT members in Secondary and oversee their work in maintaining high standards of teaching, learning and achievement. ● Commission and monitor baseline testing and the analysis of examination results.  ● Oversee target setting and the tracking of pupils’ performance.  ● Liaise with the Head of Admissions on suitability of applicants for School places.  ● Oversee all entrance testing and alongside the Heads of Departments. ● Commission annual reports from academic departments and compile an annual report on academic achievement to go to the Whole School Senior Leadership Team. Administration  ● Write the curriculum plan and commission the academic timetable each year.  ● Operations manage subject choices and the allocation of pupils to classes in all year groups.  ● Manage and chair, MLT meetings and attend other meetings and conferences, both in and out of the School, as appropriate. ● Work towards inspections and to help lead the school’s response to inspections.  ● Be aware of the requirements for good and outstanding and consistently work towards these standards in relation to the academic policies, procedures and expectations throughout secondary school and sixth form. Staff  ● Be responsible for the academic induction of new staff and for the development of the teaching abilities of all staff.  ● To coordinate the programme of regular professional review of all teaching staff.  ● Be responsible for IPGCE and NQT trainees.  Communication  ● Manage the reporting of academic progress to parents.  ● Organise the programme of parents’ meetings.  ● Communicate with parents both individually and in general on academic matters,  explaining school policies and decisions.  ● Compile and publish information as required on the curriculum and on subject  choices and content.  Finances and Facilities  ● Take overall responsibility for the annual budgets of the academic departments,  working closely with the heads of department and the Bursar. ● Monitor and advise on the provision and maintenance of suitable teaching facilities,  working closely with the heads of department. Strategic  ● Draw up, maintain and implement an academic curriculum development plan.  ● Keep abreast of national changes in curriculum policy and thinking and consider how best to respond to changes.  ● Work closely with other senior colleagues on the general development of the school.  ● Work, with the Schools Senior Leadership Team, in maintaining the School as a leader both locally, nationally and internationally in educational performance, innovation and thinking.
