- New York State licensure as a Licensed Master Social Worker or Licensed Mental Health Counselor.
- Knowledge of the principles and methods of substance abuse and mental health counseling.
- Understanding of and ability to incorporate the psychiatric rehabilitation philosophy when working with individuals.
- Computer literacy and the ability to learn and integrate new programs into daily functions.
- Good organizational skills.
- A valid New York State driver's license maintained within agency criteria.
- Provide a clinical role within the interdisciplinary team and oversee caseload management, including assigning caseloads to counselors and providing preliminary oversight for completion of admission activities.
- Monitor the electronic Compliance Center for pertinent billing-operation due dates.
- Perform telephone screenings, mental health assessments, case management, clinical interventions, orientation, treatment planning, and discharge planning as needed.
- Provide individual and group counseling for the population served.
- Address and document client behaviors and daily progress based on mental health concerns.
- Consult with staff to support the identification and treatment of mental health problems and emotional disorders.
- Review and evaluate dually diagnosed individuals during the pre-admission process and perform assessments related to trauma, suicide risk, and mental status examinations.
- Arrange access to community resources and act as a liaison between individuals and the community when necessary.
- Provide crisis intervention therapy and identify high-risk clients to implement appropriate safety protocols.
- Advocate for individuals in communication with outside agencies and programs, including ongoing correspondence and relationship building.
- Assist with unit-based performance improvement initiatives and identify opportunities for training and improvement.
- Participate in activities necessary to secure payment for treatment services from insurance and managed-care companies.
- Maintain statistical data and prepare required statistical reports.
- Use standardized assessment tools proficiently.
- Apply knowledge of mental health diagnoses and basic medical terminology.
- Assist with staff training as needed.
- Attend applicable departmental meetings.
- Maintain departmental confidentiality.
- Follow agency policies regarding attendance and lateness and comply with dress and appearance standards.
- Interrupt and report suspected abuse to an administrator immediately as a mandated reporter.
- Keep the immediate supervisor or Director informed of significant issues.
- One year of experience working with the population served.
