Requirements
- Doctor of Philosophy (“PhD”) or foreign equivalent in biochemistry, chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, or related field
- Demonstrated proficiency in all of the following areas, shown through appropriate, graduate-level coursework or classes, or via mandatory, graduate-level laboratory exercises (to include PhD-level dissertation research, for fulfillment of laboratory course requirements, or thesis work as part of graduate program):
- Demonstrated proficiency developing and applying analytical separation methods and techniques, using liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry in particular
- Regarding experimentation, characterization and analysis involving large biomolecules that include proteins, peptides and nucleic acids
- Demonstrated proficiency with biochemical pathways and separation and analytical assay development
Responsibilities
- Work independently, collaboratively and cross-functionally to perform analytical development in the separation sciences
- Develop and execute analytical separation methods that include high-performance liquid chromatography, ultra-performance liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis, with focus on mixtures and using appropriate tools
- Engage in separation theory and separation assay development regarding large biomolecules and small molecules with particular focus on oligonucleotides, lipids, proteins and related molecules
- Use detectors, biophysical methods, and perform mass spectrometry-based analytical techniques for data analysis (using appropriate tools)
- Design, develop, run and troubleshoot analytical separation assays
- Troubleshoot and maintain instrumentation that specifically includes evaporative light-scattering detectors, single/quadrupole mass spectrometers, liquid chromatographic systems, and fraction collectors
- Produce reagents; develop and transfer assays working with external partners
- Otherwise interact with third-party stakeholders
- Develop and optimize new scientific processes and scientific method protocols, to include Standard Operating Procedures, both general and specific to assays
- Write technical and scientific development reports, including regarding assays, while also communicating scientifically-rigorous findings verbally (to include giving presentations, both internally and to third-parties) and by way of visualizations as well
- Perform biochemical testing
- Generate, analyze and document research findings and experimental results
- Analyze biochemical data
- Provide research support to more senior Beam personnel
- Continually review new scientific literature
- Work with co-op student(s)/intern(s) at and rotating through Beam
- Thaw and grow cell lines, learn and establish new cell lines as needed, maintain the Cell Bank inventory, and fulfill cell line requests
