Requirements
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience; relevant education may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the collection and shipment of oncology clinical-trial study specimens according to protocol requirements, including central-lab specimens specified by the protocol and laboratory manual.
  • Obtain, document, process, and manage serial blood and other bodily-fluid specimens from clinical-trial patients.
  • Request and ship research-related pathology specimens for the Clinical Trials Office.
  • Collaborate with Tissue Repository staff to obtain and ship tissue specimens according to International Air Transport Association and Department of Transportation guidelines.
  • Communicate with Study Coordinators about the status of tissue requests.
  • Perform study-specific electrocardiograms and transmit data to the appropriate database according to the study protocol schedule of events.
  • Reference and maintain study protocols and central-lab manuals.
  • Maintain study-supply inventory, including kit quantities, kit destruction, creation of notes to file, kit-supply orders, inventory spreadsheets, and kit orders for satellite sites.
  • Coordinate central-study sample collection and required study assessments with nursing staff, study coordinators, physicians, and patients.
  • Perform data entry in hospital and laboratory information systems as needed and according to applicable policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Verify specimen integrity, including positive patient identification, correct specimen collection, and proper sample transport.
  • Use the electronic medical record, Epic, and the Outlook laboratory calendar to schedule study-lab collections and upcoming couriers.
  • Participate in the weekly laboratory rotation, daily patient assignments, and Friday handoff emails.
  • Respond to emails and resolve queries in a timely manner.
  • Comply with HIPAA guidelines and research regulations.
  • Occasionally travel between the Westwood facility, Indian Creek Campus, and the University of Kansas Health System Hospital for meetings, kit drop-off, and specimen transport.
