Requirements
  • Must be 18 years or age or older
  • Ability to read, write and understand English at the 12th Grade level, follow orders, and written and illustrated instruction
  • Ability to perform arithmetical computations (adds, subtract, etc.)
  • Must have passed Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration exam; all requirements of Pharmacy Technician Trainee
  • Must demonstrate competency in all IV admixture processes as confirmed in proficiency exercise as well as sterile procedures
  • Must have good math, computer, and communication skills
  • Oncology experience preferred
  • Must have current PTCB certification
  • Must remain certified (i.e.: continuing education and re-exam as required [staff personal responsibility]), if not re-recertified, has 3 month to become reinstated or will be removed from position.
  • Registration/Certification: Must be registered by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.
  • Must be certified by the PTCB (Pharmacy Tech Certification Board).
  • Must maintain license from Board of Pharmacy and continuing education requirements for PTCB.
Responsibilities
  • Assists in the preparation of irrigation, intravenous admixture solutions, chemotherapy and other using aseptic technique.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive hand motions for IV Room assignments and prepacking.
  • Fills unit dose, Automated Dispensing Machines (ADM), stock requisitions and maintain inventory levels in OR, Endo, OB and Oncology.
  • Delivers unit dose, ADM refills, intravenous solution and necessary pharmaceutical supplies to the nursing units.
  • Must be able to walk and/or stand for assigned shift
  • Fills medication labels, subject to final check by a pharmacist.
  • Prepares pre-packaged medications in commonly used quantities.
  • Assists with inventory control of supplies and medications.
  • Receives and shelves supplies and medications.
  • Performs cycle counts and monthly review of stock for expired medications.
  • Cleans pharmacy equipment, utensils and work areas.
