Requirements
  • Currently holding or pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Entomology, or a related field.
  • Work experience involving entomological field surveys is preferred.
  • Use attention to detail to ensure accuracy in data collection and analysis.
  • Apply analytical and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate interest in entomology, wildlife ecology, and conservation.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal interactions.
  • Collaborate with agency colleagues and academic professionals.
  • Apply outdoor skills, environmental awareness, and safety practices in remote environments.
  • Use insect survey techniques, including species identification, non-lethal sampling, and basic macrophotography.
  • Meet exemplary field collection standards for consistency, focus, and reliability.
  • Endure long periods of physical activity in occasionally difficult field conditions.
  • Perform moderate lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, hiking, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, nearly continuous standing, repetitive hand motions, and overhead reaching in outdoor conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in collecting on-site field data for focal insect species and their habitats using GPS and mobile devices to gather georeferenced data.
  • Assist the RICP crew in implementing appropriate methodologies to collect reliable data.
  • Assist with equipment and gear preparation, including cleaning and organizing vials and nets, ahead of fieldwork trips.
  • Contribute to basecamp setup and breakdown and meal preparation and cleanup during camping trips.
  • Coordinate closely with the Rare Insect Conservation Coordinator and Rare Insect Research Technician.
  • Represent RICP when interfacing with survey volunteers, taxonomic experts, landowners, and land managers as needed.
