Job Summary
Medline is seeking a dynamic and experienced ESG Controller to lead its external mandatory reporting and control function in accordance with global ESG regulatory and reporting requirements. This new role will be integral team member responsible for protecting, testing and ensuring the integrity of non-financial performance indicators expected by stakeholders now and with future obligations. The role will closely partner and strategically align with Medline’s Global Controllership team to ensure a consistent organizational approach with external reporting.
Job Description
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop, document, and execute a risk and control program for ESG’s data collection mandatory external reporting.
Lead control activities outlined in the program, such as facilitating risk assessments, monitoring controls and testing controls across global departments.
Complete data control and integrity analysis for greenhouse gas emissions or other priority topics on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis, as appropriate.
Oversee ESG’s limited and reasonable assurance obligations, including preparation, review and gap closing.
Oversee ESG’s internal audit engagements, including owning remediation action plans as appropriate.
Address compliance gaps and proactively identify opportunities to improve the control program to ensure consistency and transparency.
Develop strong relationships with internal and external auditors to coordinate their roles in the review, oversight, and assurance to certain aspects of mandatory external reporting.
Help develop a strong control mindset around ESG data generation and reporting, delivering training and building other appropriate skills and competencies for high quality non-financial performance disclosure.
Monitor and provide subject matter expertise on regulations, disclosure trends in the industry, and applicable data risks to build a plan for managing new requirements.
Provide leadership and vision for process improvement and system enhancements for controlled ESG data gathering, processing and reporting.
Develop and nurture synergies between ESG and Finance to streamline external reporting obligations.
Collaborate and align with key stakeholders including Legal, Internal Audit, Global Controller and Finance External Reporting.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Bachelor’s or Masters degree in accounting, finance, economics, business, or related field; CPA a plus
Certification / Licensure:
None required.
Work Experience:
At least 5 years of work experience at an accounting firm/auditor.
At least 5 years of professional corporate experience within ESG, specially greenhouse gas emissions.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Robust knowledge of ESG reporting and regulatory requirements.
Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage ambiguity with logic and effective prioritization.
Strong relationship management.
Familiarity with ESG data platforms / analytical tools for data analysis, visualization, and dashboard reporting.
Travel up to 25%.
