  • Hands-on experience using large language models such as Claude and/or ChatGPT to get real work done through prompt design, workflow automation, or similar applications.
  • Working knowledge of the trade lifecycle across Equity, Fixed Income, Futures, OTC Derivatives, and FX, including reconciliations, settlements, confirmations, and corporate actions.
  • Familiarity with fund operations processes and an understanding of the operational risks introduced by manual workflows.
  • Proficiency in SQL, including the ability to query enterprise databases independently to interrogate large datasets and answer business questions.
  • Working knowledge of Python for data analysis and process automation, with the ability to turn a rough business requirement into a working, reliable tool.

  • Engage Technology teams throughout the development lifecycle to validate that solutions meet business requirements, participating in design reviews, user acceptance testing, and production rollout.
  • Identify manual, repetitive, or error-prone processes across the trade lifecycle that can be automated or accelerated, and prioritize them by operational impact and risk.
  • Design, build, and maintain lightweight automations and scripts using Python and SQL, including large-language-model-assisted workflows using Claude and ChatGPT, that connect internal data and systems to reduce manual effort on the desk.
  • Prototype, pilot, and iterate on AI-assisted tools end to end, applying prompt design, testing, and evaluation to improve output quality and reliability.
  • Operate and support desk-built solutions as interim production tools by monitoring performance, troubleshooting failures, and applying appropriate controls for extended use ahead of formal engineering hand-off.
  • Document each solution end to end so successful tools can be handed to Technology for productionization or maintained and scaled by the team in the interim.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve Operations processes, data quality, and analytical capabilities.
  • Measure the impact of automation and AI implementations against operational key performance indicators, identify risks introduced by automation, and recommend appropriate controls.
  • Develop and maintain business requirements, process flows, playbooks, and user guides.
  • Coordinate across Operations, Technology, and business stakeholders to ensure cross-functional alignment on priorities and deliverables.
  • Provide detailed analysis to development teams and clear, concise updates to senior stakeholders.

Hedge fund cut top French quant who really wanted to work there.

Hedge fund cut top French quant who really wanted to work there. 42 minutes ago The last time we wrote about Damien Couture, it was 2023 and he really wanted to work for hedge fund Verition. This intention was proving problematic for him because Couture, a quant trader, had just spent nearly seven years at Jump Trading and Jump Trading had a two year non-compete. Couture was challenging the non-compete in court. That was November 2023. In May 2023, Couture joined had Verition in London. Now it's July 2026, and he's gone again. Couture didn't respond to a request to comment for this article. However, the FCA Register shows that his registration at Verition in London ended on July 6th. Sources say he was stopped out by the fund after hitting his drawdown limit. Couture has been a quant since 2007 but Verition was his first stint at being a portfolio manager at a multistrategy hedge fund. He previously worked for electronic trading firms G-Research and Jump Trading. Couture is a mathematics graduate of the prestigious École polytechnique. Verition has a reputation as a comparatively pleasant sort of hedge fund to work for. However, all hedge funds have strict risk limits and are prone to cutting people whose losses exceed a specified maximum. It's been a difficult time for quant funds. Bloomberg reported earlier this week that funds have had their worst performance since 2023 as a result of wild swings in momentum trades. Verition has made various portfolio manager hires this year, including Jerome Brochard, an MD from Nomura's quantitative investment solutions team; Bruno Baisch, a systematic PM from ExodusPoint; and Praveen Visesh, a macro PM from ExodusPoint. It's thought that Couture will remain at Verition for two months and will move on after September. It's not clear where he will go next. Nor is it clear what will become of his team. Presumably they won't be bound by another non-compete. Follow me on X. Follow me on LinkedIn. Have a confidential story, tip, or comment you'd like to share? $14B Verition builds out stock-picking team to compete with Citadel and Millennium

Verition, now managing $14 billion with over 500 investing professionals, is navigating a critical inflection point as it scales whilst maintaining its collaborative culture. The hedge fund has surpassed size thresholds that previously challenged rivals like Balyasny and Schonfeld. Gustav Rydbeck, global head of equity long-short, has assembled a leadership team from Point72 and other top firms to strengthen analytics, data, risk management and AI implementation. The firm emphasises its team-centric approach over the typical pod structure common at competitors. Verition gained 2.6% through April, outperforming the 1.3% average for multistrategy hedge funds. Over 90% of the firm's profits from the past decade came from teams still at Verition. Founder Nick Maounis and COO Josh Goldstein personally interview each portfolio manager to maintain cultural fit.

Hedge funds cut Miami investment staff despite overall growth

Several major hedge funds are reducing their investment staff in Miami despite the city's reputation as a growing finance hub. Eight multistrategy firms — including Citadel, Millennium, Point72 and Balyasny — employed 218 investment professionals in Miami in 2025, down 20 from the previous year, even as their overall investing head count grew by over 11%. Citadel, which moved its headquarters to Miami in 2022, cut 15 investment professionals there whilst adding 77 globally. Millennium reduced its Miami presence from 53 investors to 48 and consolidated from two offices to one. Only ExodusPoint and Walleye increased their Miami investment staff. Growth is instead concentrated in New York, London, Hong Kong and Dubai, according to regulatory filings.

Global hedge funds remain committed to investing in the UAE despite tensions.

Global hedge funds remain committed to investing in the UAE despite tensions. March 25, 2026 10:29 PM 2-minute read Major global hedge funds have reaffirmed their commitment to investing in the United Arab Emirates, renewing their confidence in Dubai and Abu Dhabi as global financial centers, despite the current geopolitical challenges facing the region. Statements from these institutions show their determination to continue expanding in the Emirati market, with Millennium Management confirming its commitment to Dubai while exploring options to relocate some employees, while maintaining its operational presence there. Jean-Luc Roch, the company's CEO in the UAE, said that Dubai still has strong long-term potential as a regional hub, emphasizing the company's support for employees who have chosen to build their careers in the emirate. In the same context, Sander Gerber, CEO of Hudson Bay Capital Management, stated that the UAE will remain a key destination for long-term investments and global talent, noting that his company recently opened an office in Abu Dhabi alongside its operations in Dubai. Verition Fund Management also announced plans to extend its office lease in Dubai for five years, with intentions to strengthen its presence in the Middle East region, expressing conviction in the strength of institutional stability in the area and its transformation into a growing global financial center. These statements come at a time when the UAE has reinforced its status as a primary destination for asset management companies, with institutions like Exodus Point Capital and Ballyasheni Asset Management establishing operations in the country. Over the past years, Dubai and Abu Dhabi have intensified efforts to attract global financial institutions, benefiting from competitive advantages including an attractive tax environment, high security levels, and a strategic time zone location. Abu Dhabi stands out due to its sovereign wealth, with the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, which manages assets estimated at about $1.1 trillion, continuing to expand its investments through global hedge funds. In contrast, Dubai is distinguished by private wealth strength, as its financial center hosts family offices managing assets exceeding a trillion dollars. (Bloomberg)
