Four arrested for looting an AutoZone store in Los Angeles. Downey police are investigating the robbery of two businesses in the city during a street takeover; the value of the stolen goods is unknown. Aug. 12, 2026, 6:44 p.m. EDT Four people were arrested in connection with the robbery of two businesses, an AutoZone and a Spirit Halloween, crimes committed in the early morning of Monday, August 10, the Downey Police Department (DPD) reported. According to the DPD, officers responded at approximately 3:45 a.m. Monday to the area of Firestone Boulevard and Ryerson Avenue for a possible illegal street takeover. While en route, DPD officers received another report that about 20 people were looting the AutoZone store at 7075 Firestone Boulevard, said the Downey Police Department. At the scene, officers also discovered that another looting had occurred at the Spirit Halloween store, adjacent to the AutoZone, at 7171 Firestone Boulevard. An alarm company that monitored the auto parts store via closed-circuit television cameras reported seeing approximately 20 people who broke into the premises to steal merchandise. "The Downey Police Department detectives are actively investigating both incidents," authorities said in a press release. The four people were arrested moments after the break-in on suspicion of robbery, and as of Wednesday morning, no information was available about the value of the merchandise stolen from both businesses. During the weekend, an AutoZone store in East Los Angeles was looted twice in 24 hours by people who allegedly gathered due to illegal street takeovers at the intersection of East Olympic Boulevard and South Atlantic Boulevard. Another AutoZone store, near Imperial Highway and Central Avenue in Watts, was also robbed during an illegal street takeover that occurred in the early morning of Sunday, August 9. Displaced by I-35 expansion, Northeast Austin AutoZone eyes temporary Mueller-area home. Published July 21, 2026 at 12:00 a.m. CT Updated July 22, 2026 AutoZone plans to temporarily relocate its store at 5329 N. I-35, Austin, to 1636 E. 51st St., in the Mueller Station retail center across from the Mueller Market District, though plans are not yet finalized, said AutoZone preconstruction architect Marda Lugar. What's happening The I-35 store is expected to be displaced as the Texas Department of Transportation acquires the property for the I-35 Capital Express Central project, according to Lugar. If plans move forward, the 51st Street location would serve as a temporary home while the company searches for a larger permanent space, potentially farther down Berkman Drive, she said. The details The temporary store could open as early as late October, Lugar said, and renovation of the existing 9,600-square-foot building is slated to run from early September through early December, according to a state filing. A closing date for the I-35 store has not been announced. Founded in 1979, AutoZone operates more than 6,700 U.S. stores selling automotive replacement parts and accessories, including batteries, brakes, oil, filters and wipers, and offers services such as battery testing, check engine light diagnostics and loaner tools, according to the retailer's website. * Opening late October * 1636 E. 51st St., Austin * www.autozone.com
AutoZone has filed a prospectus with the US Securities and Exchange Commission to issue senior notes maturing in 2031. The debt offering, priced slightly below par, carries a coupon rate marginally above comparable US Treasury yields. The notes include optional early redemption provisions and a change-of-control clause requiring repurchase at a modest premium. A consortium of investment banks is managing the syndication, with settlement scheduled five business days after pricing. The Memphis-based auto parts retailer appears to be positioning the proceeds for expansion in e-commerce, warehouse automation, and last-mile delivery capabilities. The company faces mounting competition from traditional rivals and online marketplaces, alongside supply chain pressures affecting the automotive sector. AutoZone's debt-to-EBITDA ratio remains below industry averages, suggesting capacity to service the additional obligations whilst funding growth initiatives.

AutoZone is trading at a five-year valuation discount despite strong fundamentals, with its forward P/E falling to 18, below its five-year average of 19. The stock has dropped 16% over the past year whilst the S&P 500 gained 24%. The auto parts retailer reported third-quarter earnings per share of $38.07, beating the $36.17 consensus, with revenue up 8.4% year-over-year to $4.84 billion. Commercial sales grew 10.4% to $1.40 billion. Analysts argue AutoZone's "consult to sell" model provides a durable moat against Amazon, noting that customers pay $20 more to visit stores rather than order online, leaving only 1–2% of sales digital. The company has repurchased $38.9 billion in shares since 1998. Recent insider purchases, including by the chief executive, suggest confidence in the valuation.
