The Employment Tax and Payroll Accounting Manager will have the overall responsibility for managing employment tax and payroll accounting transactions. This role ensures adherence to federal, state, and local tax regulations, oversees payroll-related financial processes, and manages a team to deliver accurate and timely reporting.
The ideal candidate would need to be a strategic thinker with deep expertise in employment tax laws, payroll systems, and accounting principles, and has a proven ability to lead teams and collaborate across departments.
This position will be in Irving, Texas and does not offer a full-time telecommuting arrangement.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage, mentor, and develop the employment tax and payroll accounting team.
- Provide guidance on complex payroll tax and accounting issues to staff and cross-functional teams.
- Ensure departmental goals align with organizational objectives and compliance requirements.
- Oversee compliance with all federal, state, and local employment tax regulations.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of payroll tax returns, including Forms 941, 940, W-2s, and other required reports.
- Monitor and interpret changes in tax laws and regulations, implementing necessary updates to systems and processes.
- Manage relationships with external tax agencies and address inquiries or audits related to payroll taxes.
- Oversee payroll-related journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Ensure accuracy of payroll-related transactions, including wages, benefits, and tax liabilities.
- Lead the payroll accounting aspects of month-end and year-end close processes.
- Collaborate with HR, IT, and Finance teams to ensure payroll processes align with accounting standards and organizational needs.
- Prepare for and support internal and external audits related to payroll and tax compliance.
- Develop and present reports on payroll tax compliance and financial performance to senior management.
- Identify trends and opportunities for process improvement through data analysis and reporting.
- Manage payroll system configurations related to tax compliance and accounting.
- Lead system implementations, upgrades, or integrations impacting payroll tax and accounting processes.
- Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in payroll operations.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
- 10+ years of experience in payroll accounting and employment tax compliance, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local employment tax laws and regulations
- Must have proven analytical skills and ability to resolve complex payroll issues
- Solid software skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Experience with payroll and accounting systems such as ADP, Workday, SAP(S4), or similar platforms.
Salary Range: $112,200.00 - $158,400.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
