Requirements
  • The candidate must be licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in Missouri.
  • The candidate must hold Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • The candidate must maintain current nursing licenses, certifications, and mandatory hospital requirements.
  • The candidate must be able to handle emergency and crisis situations, irregular hours, prolonged standing or walking, and occasional lifting, positioning, pushing, or transferring of patients.
Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive, age-appropriate nursing assessments and reassessments, document findings, and assess patient and family education and discharge needs.
  • Establish, coordinate, evaluate, and modify patient plans of care using assessment data, diagnoses, laboratory data, tests, procedures, physician orders, protocols, standards of care, and evidence-based practice.
  • Provide and document nursing interventions, including medication administration, intravenous fluids, parenteral nutrition, referrals, consultations, patient and family education, discharge planning, and assistance with procedures and treatments.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members, communicate patient care plans and handoff reports, clarify and implement physician orders, and recognize and respond to changes in patient condition and safety risks.
  • Provide specialized care for patients at high risk for injury, including restraint care, pain management, abuse assessment, and patient safety interventions.
  • Document and communicate nursing care, evaluate treatment and education effectiveness, report significant clinical changes, identify problems, suggest solutions, and follow occurrence-reporting procedures.
  • Apply infection-control, safety, standard-precaution, hazardous-waste, safe-patient-handling, and environmental-maintenance practices.
  • Provide timely, respectful, confidential, patient- and family-centered service and communicate procedures, medications, monitoring, and plans of care clearly.
  • Participate in performance improvement, evidence-based practice, nursing research, quality-indicator activities, occurrence reviews, committee work, shared governance, and unit-based practice activities.
  • Orient and precept new employees, supervise and teach students and new staff nurses, serve as a resource to coworkers and healthcare team members, and delegate care appropriately.
  • Provide age-appropriate adult and geriatric care and involve families or significant others in care decisions.
  • Use resources efficiently, document chargeable supplies and equipment, prioritize responsibilities, and complete required documentation, audits, education, and competency activities.
