MDCalc provides clinical decision support tools designed for healthcare settings. Its platform offers a suite of medical calculators and diagnostic/prognostic algorithms that integrate directly with Electronic Health Records (EHRs), helping clinicians make faster, more accurate treatment decisions. The product works as cloud-based calculators and analytics that update across devices and feed usage data back to institutions for insights, with access typically via a subscription model for healthcare organizations and individual practitioners. MDCalc differentiates itself by its extensive adoption—used by more than 80% of U.S. physicians—its seamless EHR integration, and its analytics that track calculator usage and quality metrics to support research and best practices. The company’s goal is to improve clinician efficiency, patient outcomes, and care quality by embedding reliable decision-support tools into everyday clinical workflows.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Ryan Olohan joined September 8, 2026, signaling aggressive commercialization and partnership expansion.
  • STAT's July 17, 2026 coverage amplified MDCalc's quality ratings and brand authority.
  • Swarna Chatterjee's commercial division widens revenue options beyond free clinician usage.

What critics are saying

  • MDCalc still gives physicians tools free, slowing monetization despite September 2026 sales expansion.
  • Quality ratings expose weak calculators, and public bias flags can damage trust immediately.
  • Thirty-two employees and $30.8K disclosed funding leave MDCalc vulnerable if EHR vendors duplicate it.

What makes MDCalc unique

  • Physician-owned MDCalc serves millions with 800-plus point-of-care tools, updated September 8, 2026.
  • Its December 11, 2025 Quality Rating System scores calculators for validity, bias, and transparency.
  • MDCalc embeds clinical decisions directly inside physician workflows, not as generic consumer health content.
