Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline is required.
  • Candidates with an Electrical Engineering degree must have at least 7 years of relevant FPGA engineering experience; candidates with other technical degrees must have at least 10 years.
  • Candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful U.S. permanent residents, or certain categories of refugees or asylees to comply with U.S. export control laws.
  • Ability to work effectively in laboratory environments.
  • Expertise in hardware description language programming using Verilog and/or VHDL for synthesizable register-transfer level design and verification.
  • Experience with AMD Zynq, AMD UltraScale+, and RFSoC FPGA devices.
  • Proficiency with electronic design automation tools such as Vivado and Questa.
  • Understanding of hardware signal-processing techniques including digital filters, decimators, and proportional-integral-derivative controllers.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory test and measurement instruments, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, pulse generators, and logic and protocol analyzers.
  • Ability to collaborate with hardware engineers on FPGA/SoC printed-circuit-board designs.
  • Experience writing SDC timing constraints to achieve timing closure on high-speed FPGA designs.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols including SPI, I2C, AXI, Avalon, Ethernet, AMBA, and Wishbone.
  • Scripting experience for electronic design automation tools, preferably with Tcl and Python.
  • Understanding of practical register-transfer-level design issues including latency, jitter, metastability, setup and hold timing, and multicycle paths.
  • Familiarity with revision-control and issue-tracking software such as Git and Jira.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with physicists, electronics engineers, and optical designers to define system requirements and select FPGA/SoC components and supporting integrated circuits.
  • Design and contribute to custom printed-circuit-board layouts integrating modern FPGA/SoC devices, while identifying critical design challenges that affect robustness.
  • Develop synthesizable register-transfer-level code using Verilog or VHDL, create test benches, and prepare electronic design automation tool support to meet performance targets.
  • Lead FPGA board bring-up, integration, and test activities.
  • Develop test scripts and compile validation documentation.
  • Mentor early-career engineers on best practices.
  • Collaborate with the manufacturing team to release production-ready code.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with formal verification methodologies and languages such as PSL, SystemVerilog, UVVM, UVM, or OVM.
  • Experience designing for challenging environmental deployments, including low Earth orbit.
  • Experience creating custom Linux builds using Yocto, PetaLinux, or OpenEmbedded.
  • Background managing continuous integration and continuous delivery systems, virtualization, and deployment technologies.
