Requirements
  • Experience working with school-age children, including a minimum of 460 verifiable hours with elementary school-age children.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must qualify under Department of Human Services regulations.
  • Must pass a criminal background check before working with children.
  • Must hold current CPR and First Aid certification before working with children.
  • Must complete standard precautions certification before working with children.
  • Must complete Medication Administration certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Must complete Colorado Immunization training if required.
  • Must have a current physical before starting work.
  • Must complete current state-required annual continuing education.
  • Must have strong customer service and public relations skills.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to learn and apply new technical knowledge, systems, applications, and processes.

  • Must have operating knowledge of personal computers, peripherals, information technology systems, and department-specific software and equipment.
  • Must be able to work with children and adults and perform outdoor duties.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and support children in the After School Program during educational and recreational activities and field trips.
  • Provide direction, guidance, and assistance to students.
  • Create, supervise, support, guide, and assist students during crafts, art projects, games, and other activities.
  • Create educational activities that engage students and provide developmental stimulation.
  • Monitor student behavior, handle discipline situations, and encourage positive behavior.
  • Record attendance and contact parents regarding absent students.
  • Monitor children and the building to ensure health, safety, and security.
  • Maintain accurate accountability of children and required student-to-staff ratios.
  • Distribute medication once certified and provide general First Aid when needed.
  • Assist the Program Supervisor and Site Leader with mentoring, training, paperwork, interviewing, and hiring of program aides.
  • Supervise and maintain order among staff and students and communicate issues to the Program Supervisor or Site Leader.
  • Assist the Site Leader in reviewing 504 plans and Individualized Education Programs for compliance.
  • Communicate child and program information to parents, staff, and teachers.
  • Obtain parental authorization for unauthorized adults picking up students and check identification.
  • Open, close, and secure the school building by locking doors and turning off lights.
  • Prepare snacks and clean activity, cafeteria, and kitchen areas.
  • Assist with maintaining confidential child records.
  • Assist with supervising students during bus transportation, field trips, recess, and other program activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
