Requirements
  • Hold a current, unencumbered Ohio license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Be able to sit for up to 4 hours per day, stand for up to 8 hours per day, and walk for up to 6 hours per day.
  • Be able to lift, transfer, push, or pull residents, patients, or equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
  • Be available for on-call coverage 24/7 for emergencies.
  • Work safely with exposure to falls, equipment burns, odors, cuts, infectious waste, disease conditions, AIDS, and Hepatitis B viruses.
  • Occasional travel and driving of up to 6 hours per day may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Direct the day-to-day nursing activities and make work assignments for Nursing Assistants in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, guidelines, and company standards.
  • Coordinate nursing services to ensure continuity of resident care.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and nursing standards of practice.
  • Represent the nursing department in Interdisciplinary Care Plan meetings and answer questions about care plans and service delivery.
  • Participate in committee, employee, departmental, and scheduled in-service training meetings.
  • Meet regularly with Nursing Assistants to identify and correct problem areas and improve care and services.
  • Provide direct nursing care as needed.
  • Consult with residents’ physicians regarding resident care, treatment, and rehabilitation.
  • Notify residents’ physicians and families of changes in residents’ conditions.
  • Authorize and monitor the use of restraints in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge patients as necessary.
  • Work with the Unit Manager to help reduce hospital readmissions.
  • Ensure nursing procedures are followed and reflect the facility’s day-to-day nursing practices.
  • Participate in maintaining and implementing the facility’s quality assurance program.
  • Ensure nursing staff follow procedures for medication and supply administration, storage, and control.
  • Ensure resident rooms, treatment areas, work areas, and equipment are clean, sanitary, and safe.
  • Supervise Certified Nursing Assistants.
  • Interview, select, orient, and manage new direct reports.
  • Establish and promote performance expectations for direct reports.
  • Evaluate direct reports’ job performance and provide developmental guidance.
  • Monitor employee accountability and work with Human Resources on documentation and intervention when needed.
  • Develop, plan, schedule, conduct, and monitor in-service training, on-the-job training, and orientation programs for departmental staff.
  • Ensure adequate staffing coverage when a direct report is absent or a direct-report position is vacant.
  • Review and respond to questions, requests, and work product from departmental staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of clinical experience in a hospital, long-term care facility, or related healthcare facility.
  • Supervisory experience in a long-term care, hospital, or related healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records.
