Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Architecture or Architectural Design.
  • 6+ years of post-graduate preservation architect experience.
  • Ability to travel as required and must have valid driver’s license and successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check.
Responsibilities
  • Understanding project scopes and architectural plans and developing approaches commensurate with project budgets.
  • Researching materials, construction techniques, and the historic context of historic buildings to determine appropriate treatments.
  • Assessing and recommending applicability of California Historic Building Code.
  • Preparing, reviewing and commenting on drawings and technical specifications.
  • Preparing conditions assessment reports, maintenance plans, and treatment plans.
  • Performing construction monitoring site visits and responding to RFIs.
  • Coordinating project reviews and schedules with clients, other consultants, and contractors/construction teams.
  • Keeping track of project schedules and meeting deliverable deadlines.
  • Staying informed about the latest innovations in conservation materials and techniques.
Desired Qualifications
  • Eight or more years or more professional architecture experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of the SOI Standards, California Historic Building Code, historic construction techniques, and both historic and non-historic finishes.
  • Experience and familiarity with California history and architectural history; knowledge of other regions of the United States is a plus.
  • Experience with projects involving alterations to properties listed in or eligible for listing in local registers, the CRHR, or NRHP.
  • Experience working on preservation projects with specialty trades.
  • Proficiency with design software (i.e. REVIT, AutoCAD, etc.) and MS Office Suite.
  • Written communication skills, particularly demonstrated experience preparing reports involving historic buildings for regulatory compliance.
