Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited program, or two years of work experience above the minimum qualification.
  • A major in Nursing.
  • Two years of experience.
  • A Registered Nurse (RN) license or registration.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or completion within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Operating room experience.
  • Knowledge of nursing and patient care standards and procedures; applicable laws, regulations, protocols, policies, and procedures; medical terminology; health promotion; risk reduction; disease prevention and management; medications, common dosages, effects, and adverse reactions; nursing ethics; and patient privacy rights.
  • Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing, interact with a wide range of constituencies, think critically, solve problems, observe changes in patients' medical conditions, and communicate those changes to nursing staff and physicians or providers.
  • Ability to provide age-specific, quality, patient-centered care through the nursing process and standards of nursing practice, while developing, evaluating, implementing, and modifying individualized patient care plans.
  • General computer skills, including Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate patient care delivery by the health care team using the nursing professional practice model.
  • Assess patients, identify nursing diagnoses, develop and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate patient responses.
  • Promote safe passage through the health care encounter by addressing patient needs and preventing complications or delays.
  • Delegate interventions and care to health care personnel according to the Texas Nursing Practice Act, patient condition, and employee competencies.
  • Conduct accurate clinical assessments, prioritize patient and family needs, and modify care plans to meet clinical outcomes.
  • Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and participate in evidence-based practice changes, research utilization, and quality or performance improvement initiatives.
  • Create a safe and therapeutic environment, develop therapeutic relationships, maintain appropriate boundaries, and manage physical and emotional pain.
  • Incorporate patients' and families' cultural, spiritual, gender, racial, ethnic, lifestyle, socioeconomic, age, and value differences into individualized care plans.
  • Protect patient and family confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights; represent their concerns; and help resolve ethical and clinical concerns.
  • Facilitate education for patients, families, nursing staff, health care team members, and the community; assess and document learning needs and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and the community to develop and implement integrated care plans, ensure timely follow-up, and recognize team members' contributions.
  • Use available resources to solve problems and plan and deliver safe, effective, and efficient patient care.
  • Participate in mutual governance, decision-making, staffing processes, continuing education, professional networking, nursing organizations, self-study, professional reading, certification, and community service.
  • Contribute to the professional development of peers, colleagues, and others.
