RBC offers no reopening date as Saba branch remains closed.

RBC offers no reopening date as Saba branch remains closed. Sat 25 Jul 2026 Saba THE BOTTOM, Saba - RBC Royal Bank has confirmed that its Saba branch remains closed, but has provided no concrete date for the return of in-person banking services. In an update issued on Friday, July 24, the bank thanked clients and the Saba community for their patience and said it was working to maintain access to withdrawals, deposits and other banking services. The statement, however, offered no indication of when the branch may reopen or what progress has been made towards restoring face-to-face service. The branch has reportedly been closed for several weeks following the death of Ms. Reed, who worked at the Saba location. RBC did not address the reason for the closure or provide information about its staffing situation in Friday's statement. On July 10, the Public Entity Saba said the continued closure was having a significant impact on residents and businesses that depend on in-person banking. It called on RBC to provide the community with an official update and noted that no reopening date had been confirmed. RBC's latest communication primarily lists the alternatives available during the closure. The ATM remains operational for withdrawals and deposits, although deposits may be held for up to one week and the machine may periodically be unavailable for maintenance. The business depository is being processed weekly, while customers are also directed to digital banking and RBC's telephone Advice Centre. The bank said further information would be shared through notices at the branch, online banking and social media. For now, however, Saba remains without an operational bank branch and without clarity on when normal service will resume. 46 times read

RBC fined $4.25M by FCAC.

RBC fined $4.25M by FCAC. Bank paid $22.4M in compensation to customers affected by inaccurate statements By James Langton | June 25, 2026 | Last updated on June 25, 2026 Plus Icon Image Royal Bank of Canada has been fined $4.25 million by the federal Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) for failing to provide certain customers with accurate credit card statements. According to the FCAC, between 2001 and 2024, the bank provided monthly statements that contained inaccurate information in cases where cards were cancelled due to suspected fraud. "RBC failed to transfer certain credits from the deactivated accounts to the new ones. As a result, impacted customers received inaccurate monthly credit card statements and some customers incurred additional charges," the regulator said. The bank has also already paid $22.4 million in refunds to the affected customers, the federal agency noted, adding that the penalty reflects the harm to customers, among other factors. "The root cause of the violation was inadequate and ineffective control and oversight procedures and operational challenges with processes and proper reporting," the FCAC said. James Langton. James is a senior reporter for Advisor.ca and its sister publication, Investment Executive. He has been reporting on regulation, securities law, industry news and more since 1994.

RBC commits $1B to Canadian growth fund targeting defence and infrastructure sectors

Royal Bank of Canada is investing up to $1 billion in a new Canadian growth fund aimed at supporting domestic businesses and strengthening the country's economy. The fund will focus on critical sectors including defence and infrastructure. RBC estimates Canada requires $1.8 trillion in capital over the next decade. The initiative is designed to encourage Canadian entrepreneurs to seek funding domestically rather than abroad, whilst positioning Canada as a top investment destination. The bank's strategic focus on sectors vital to national security and long-term prosperity could attract additional investment in these areas. The move signals RBC's confidence in Canada's economic potential and aims to foster a more self-reliant business environment.
