Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Hold current appropriate state licensure.
  • Hold current or successfully complete CPR BLS Certification.
  • Meet the practice requirements in the state of employment.
  • Have less than 2 years of nephrology nursing experience as a Registered Nurse for this entry-level designation.
  • Complete all Clinical Advancement Program requirements to advance.
  • For assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians, Licensed Practical Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, or Registered Nurses as Team Leader or Nurse in Charge: complete all Fresenius Kidney Care education and training requirements, have at least 9 months of Registered Nurse experience, and have at least 3 months of chronic or acute hemodialysis experience.
  • Provide direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing, bending, and occasionally moving equipment up to 200 pounds with assistance or lifting chemical and water solutions up to 30 pounds to a height of 5 feet.
  • Be able to work around infectious and contagious diseases or materials.
  • Be able to travel to training sites or other facilities when required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform clinically competent assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients.
  • Coordinate daily provision of safe and effective hemodialysis therapy with direct and ancillary patient-care staff.
  • Perform ongoing systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after hemodialysis treatment, document findings in the medical record, modify treatment plans as indicated, and notify the appropriate clinical personnel or physician as needed.
  • Assess, collaborate on, and document patients’ and families’ basic learning needs and provide initial and ongoing education.
  • Administer medications as prescribed or according to approved algorithms, and document medical justification and effectiveness.
  • Initiate or assist with emergency response measures.
  • Serve as a resource for the health care team and participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned.
  • Ensure correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping procedures, and reschedule missed or insufficient laboratory collections.
  • Identify expected outcomes and document and update nursing assessments and plans of care through collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Ensure patient awareness of transplant and treatment modality options.
  • Perform duties under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or other Registered Nurses.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
