Requirements
- A bachelor's degree is required.
- Progressive levels of responsibility in higher educational financial aid administration demonstrating organizational, managerial, and budgetary skills are required.
- Experience with budget reconciliation and proficiency in Title IV and state regulations are required.
- The ability to organize multiple tasks simultaneously is required.
- Effective written, oral, interpersonal, and leadership skills are required.
- The ability to build strong working relationships throughout the university community is required.
- The ability to balance institutional policies and aid program regulations with the individual needs of students is required.
Responsibilities
- Advise and counsel full- and part-time undergraduate students and families on financial aid availability, the delivery process, and reconciliation processes.
- Review student financial aid applications and complete financial aid awarding based on federal and institutional policies.
- Perform verification procedures, review and evaluate appeals, and intercede for students with participating departments.
- Assist with operational tasks within the Student Financial Services undergraduate financial aid team.
- Assist in managing the administration of institutional scholarships and grants and federal aid for undergraduate students.
- Assist in coordinating and distributing workload for Financial Aid Counseling staff.
- Hire, train, and supervise financial aid counselors.
- Design and implement policies and procedures for undergraduate aid.
- Integrate federal regulations and Northeastern application and awarding policies.
- Assess and improve operational workflow concerns with internal and external stakeholders and identify and resolve issues with SFS leadership.
- Assist with verification, Return to Title IV calculations, and auditing financial aid awards.
- Direct and supervise financial aid staff members, define areas of responsibility, and monitor performance.
- Coordinate personnel functions, administer personnel development, and resolve employee issues with Human Resources Management.
- Train staff on Title IV regulations and Northeastern policies.
- Resolve escalated cases from the undergraduate financial aid counselor team.
- Counsel and advise students and parents on financial aid processes, awarding, and financing options through appointments, email, written correspondence, and telephone communication.
- Explain the financial aid process and Northeastern billing procedures.
- Resolve conflicts with the student accounts team, lenders, and other parties.
- Monitor satisfactory academic progress.
- Administer federal, state, and Northeastern financial assistance.
- Review student applications and perform federal and institutional need analysis to determine eligibility.
- Implement Northeastern awarding guidelines.
- Attend university-wide open houses, student meetings, workshops, and informational sessions to advise current and prospective students and colleagues on the financial aid process.
- Represent Student Financial Services at recruitment and informational events on campus.
Desired Qualifications
- A master's degree is preferred.
- Experience with PowerFAIDS is preferred.
