Requirements
  • A Technical Certificate or bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, and 3+ years of experience within the industrial automation industry or equivalent experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude from prior professional experience.
  • Hands-on industrial automation industry or equivalent experience.
  • Strong fundamental understanding of electrical design practices, machine and motion control systems, electromechanical systems, robotics, programming, and system integration.
  • Understanding of programmable logic controller programming languages.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical control panels and computer numerical control systems.
  • Knowledge of Siemens 840D or WINCC numerical control controllers.
  • Experience using precision measurement equipment such as dial indicators and calipers.
  • Experience with aerial platforms and working at heights.
  • Ability to lift and move materials or equipment weighing up to approximately 40 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and repetitively climb stairs within a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have shift flexibility and be open to working weekend shifts consisting of three 12-hour shifts.
  • Must be able to travel to customer sites, primarily Charleston, South Carolina and Kinston, North Carolina, with 50% or more travel expected.
Responsibilities
  • Provide electrical and controls engineering expertise in support of new equipment and system introductions.
  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert in control systems, including Siemens programmable logic controllers, human-machine interfaces, motion control systems, system integration, sensors, and electromechanical devices.
  • Apply knowledge of electronics, electrical circuits, mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, and programming.
  • Travel to customer sites for machine commissioning and troubleshooting support.
  • Maintain logs and written records of duties performed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Siemens Step 7 programmable logic controller troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with Siemens TIA Portal and Sinumerik One.
  • Computer numerical control troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with IEC 61131 programmable logic controller programming languages.
  • Ability to analyze and diagnose automation problems.

Together with ZAL and other partners, Broetje-Automation is working on the BiSconA project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy to develop an automated ‘built-in stress’ compliant joining process for aircraft fuselages that sets standards in terms of accuracy and speed of the assembly process and ensures the stress-free condition of the fuselage over the entire assembly process.
