Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Nurse Assistant certification.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
Responsibilities
  • Remain accountable to licensed nurses, the Charge Nurse, the Nurse Manager, and/or the Orthopedic Service Line Director.
  • Demonstrate and promote compliance with infection-control, legal, and safety standards.
  • Organize and prioritize care based on patient needs and preferences, unit activities, and other commitments.
  • Perform basic patient-care activities according to hospital policies and procedures, including taking vital signs, assisting with meals, administering enemas, providing catheter care and hygiene measures, positioning and moving patients, collecting specimens, and applying restraints and treatments or completing related tasks.
  • Provide care with sensitivity to patients' cultural needs, rights, and privacy.
  • Maintain knowledge of patients' current conditions and recognize situations requiring nursing supervision.
  • Answer call lights in a timely manner.
  • Participate in the organization-wide Performance Improvement Program through orientation, education, departmental and interdepartmental quality control, performance improvement, and quality-planning activities.
  • Use the plan of care to assist the licensed nurse with data collection and document appropriately according to hospital standards.
  • Provide basic patient care to an assigned group of patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse, considering age-specific standards of care.
  • Support the overall forward movement of the unit and organization.
  • Use verbal and non-verbal interpersonal and communication processes to support organizational service goals, customer satisfaction, and a positive work environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous Nursing Assistant experience or completion of a formal Nursing Assistant course.
  • A minimum of one year of recent experience in medical/surgical care in an acute care hospital.
