Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program.
  • Hold current Licensed Practical Nurse licensure in the State of Louisiana.
  • Hold current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Have a minimum of six months to one year of work experience.
  • Be intravenous therapy certified and willing to perform related tasks.
  • Have basic computer knowledge.
  • Use appropriate discretion when handling confidential material and information.
  • Interact professionally with patients, families, physicians, vendors, and coworkers while providing high standards of customer service and teamwork.
Responsibilities
  • Perform duties within the recognized scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nursing.
  • Assist clinic physicians, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses in caring for patients in a family practice environment.
  • Open the clinic and ensure readiness for daily activities.
  • Prepare patient examination rooms and laboratory areas for daily activity.
  • Perform and record quality checks on laboratory test equipment.
  • Collect laboratory specimens, including venipuncture, and prepare specimens for shipment to the hospital laboratory.
  • Perform Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-waived laboratory procedures.
  • Enter orders into Meditech.
  • Take and record patient vital signs and assist with patient assessment, intervention, and teaching within the scope of Licensed Practical Nursing practice.
  • Prepare patients in examination rooms for practitioners.
  • Record presenting problems, reasons for visits, current medications, and allergies.
  • Assist practitioners with patient examinations and procedures as needed, and ensure laboratory, radiology, and other procedure orders are recorded properly.
  • Set up procedure trays as needed.
  • Perform patient electrocardiogram recordings as ordered.
  • Provide oral and injectable medications as ordered by practitioners and within the scope of Licensed Practical Nursing practice.
  • Administer and record vaccines in Links and follow vaccine schedules for children and adults.
  • Clean and restock patient examination rooms between patient use as needed.
  • Assist with patient calls, prescription refills, laboratory and test-result notifications, and referral-patient scheduling.
  • Assist with inventory and ordering of clinic supplies.
  • Meet current documentation standards and policies.
  • Respond appropriately to patients in emergency or physically distressful situations.
  • Maintain effective working relationships within the department and with other hospital departments.
  • Operate equipment safely and correctly.
