Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Hold current appropriate state licensure and meet practice requirements in all states where employed.
  • Hold current CPR Basic Life Support Certification or successfully complete it.
  • Have a minimum of 9 months of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Complete 6 months of acute dialysis experience to meet Nurse in Charge oversight requirements.
  • Complete all Fresenius Kidney Care education and modality-specific training requirements for new employees.
  • Be able to perform direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, assisting with ambulation, prolonged standing, bending, and occasional movement of equipment and chemical or water solutions within the stated weight limits.
  • Be available for required travel to training or meeting sites and between assigned facilities.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, including night, weekend, and holiday coverage as required by program needs.
Responsibilities
  • Provide and coordinate clinically competent care, including patient assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Collect and analyze patient data before, during, and after treatment, document it in the medical record, modify treatment plans as indicated, and notify appropriate clinical personnel.
  • Assess and document patient and family learning needs and provide initial and ongoing education.
  • Recognize abnormal patient status and report or collaborate with appropriate health team members.
  • Direct and provide safe, effective care for assigned patients according to prescribed modality-specific treatment procedures.
  • Assess daily patient-care needs and collaborate with direct and ancillary patient-care staff.
  • Initiate and coordinate communication with dialysis providers and contracted facility personnel to support continuity of care.
  • Implement, administer, monitor, and document patient responses to prescribed intradialytic transfusions and report adverse reactions appropriately.
  • Administer prescribed medications and document medical justification and effectiveness.
  • Initiate and assist with emergency response measures.
  • Serve as a resource for the health care team and participate in staff training and orientation of new staff as assigned.
  • Provide specialized nursing-care instruction to hospital or facility staff when contractually required.
  • Assist in an outpatient facility on an as-needed basis.
  • Complete Clinical Advancement Program requirements for advancement.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Provide assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians, Licensed Vocational Nurses or Licensed Practical Nurses, and Registered Nurses as designated Nurse in Charge after completing required training and experience.
