Job Summary:
The Vanderbilt Health Executive Search Team is conducting a national search for an Executive Director of Learning & Organizational Effectiveness. The Executive Director of Learning & Organizational Effectiveness leads the overall management and direction of Vanderbilt Health’s talent management and organizational effectiveness (OE) strategies, including leadership competency, career development, performance management, succession planning and change management. The Executive Director of Learning & Organizational Effectiveness is responsible for the design and execution of our employee engagement strategy, while fostering a positive work environment that promotes employee satisfaction and retention. The Executive Director of Learning & Organizational Effectiveness will elevate organizational workforce effectiveness and ensure a robust learning and development culture through strategic counsel on major organizational change initiatives, thus ensuring they are effectively communicated and managed across the organization. The Executive Director of Learning & Organizational Effectiveness is also responsible for developing and overseeing the implementation of metrics to measure the effectiveness of VUMC’s learning programs.

Role Accountabilities:
- Continuously evaluate and lead a comprehensive training and development strategy that supports the organization’s goals and culture and provides high-quality leadership, workforce programs, and understanding of organizational changes. Training and development oversight includes annual and new hire compliance, business training, EPIC/electronic health record, workforce, leadership, and resuscitation teams.
- Ensure VUMC’s performance management system aligns with the organization’s strategic goals and objectives.
- Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of our employee engagement strategy and implement enhancements that nurture a positive work environment and foster employee retention.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to identify organizational effectiveness needs and ensure OE and development initiatives address critical workforce opportunities.
- Provide strategic counsel and insight into major organizational change initiatives through the systemwide change network.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of metrics to measure the effectiveness of all programs.
- Manage the budget for programs and ensure they are cost-effective and demonstrate return on investment.
- Demonstrate a learning mindset by remaining current with industry trends in training, development, and organizational development; identify and implement best practices.
- Create the infrastructure for organizational high potential/talent identification and career progression programs.
- Understand the demographic changes to the workforce and implement modern approaches to meet needs within the learning and organizational effectiveness arenas.
- Improve skills of leaders to effectively manage and engage teams using the leadership competency framework.
- Leverage technology where appropriate to support effectiveness and growth initiatives.
Qualifications – External:
- Master’s Degree (or equivalent experience) and 10 years experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in training and development, organizational development, or a related field.
- Master’s degree or PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- A service-oriented mindset and ability to interface and collaborate with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
- Workday and healthcare industry experience.
- Strong communication (written and verbal), organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with strong attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to analyze data and metrics to evaluate the impact of organizational effectiveness programs and initiatives.
- Experience managing budgets and resources.
- Experience with performance management systems and employee engagement initiatives.
- Knowledge of industry trends and best practices in training, development, and organizational development.
- Strong project management skills.
- Academic Medical Center experience preferred.
