Requirements
  • A Master of Library and Information Science from an American Library Association-accredited college or university.
  • Two years of professional librarian experience, including a combination of supervisory and professional librarian experience.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work overtime when required to meet operational needs.
  • Ability to work during inclement weather as an Alpha I position.
Responsibilities
  • Liaise and partner with government, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and the educational community to connect customers with library resources.
  • Co-lead Archives, Local History and Genealogy, and Municipal Reference collections, and work on web archiving.
  • Maintain awareness of industry-standard resources, trends, and training best practices to anticipate and respond to customer needs.
  • Plan, market, present, and evaluate specialized and complex programs and classes.
  • Conduct library tours and create finding aids and displays.
  • Manage the research process, including negotiating customer deadlines and monitoring research progress.
  • Coordinate special projects, including preservation, and supervise, train, and evaluate volunteers and interns.
  • Collaborate with the Development Manager to seek grant funding for local history, genealogy, and archival resources and programs.
  • Cultivate donors and advise on the organization, preservation, and storage of archival materials.
  • Assist customers in accessing library resources and using library technology and personal digital devices.
  • Interpret, explain, and apply library policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate collections and recommend additions, withdrawals, or replacements.
  • Lead or participate on teams developing library system policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop programs, share resources, and communicate trends in library services.
  • Lead and supervise staff in creating and implementing annual goals and objectives.
  • Provide written and verbal performance feedback to staff.
  • Participate on departmental and City interview teams to hire staff.
  • Participate in professional organizations and continuing education activities.
  • Act as Building Manager when library management is absent, making decisions and resolving conflicts.
  • Monitor the safety, security, and general maintenance of library facilities and outreach sites.
  • Support service needs at other library locations within the system as assigned.
