- Knowledge of and experience using International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding, specifically for inpatient medicine.
- Knowledge of inpatient medicine payer and coding guidelines.
- Knowledge of and skill in using personal computers in a Windows environment, with emphasis on Excel, Word, Adobe, PowerPoint, and Zoom.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, maintain close attention to detail, and organize competing priorities.

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Experience with inpatient medicine professional-fee coding.
- Research complex coding issues, recommend resolutions, identify training needs, and develop processes.
- Design and update coding lessons, projects, and assessments tailored to different learning objectives and audiences, including USACS and vendor coders.
- Deliver instruction through in-person or virtual classrooms using platforms including IngeniousMed, MedAptus, medimobile, OnBase, Pulse, Workday, and Articulate.
- Monitor student progress, provide feedback, and provide individual or group support.
- Measure student performance through formative and summative assessments, analyze data, and report findings to inform instructional improvements.
- Participate in external training programs by presenting tailored materials, including coding programs such as Stark State College's coding program.
- Create and maintain coding resources, including standard operating procedures and site pages, to help coders apply organizational policy to broad coding concepts.
- Research inpatient and specialty medicine coding topics or issues, create problem statements, provide recommendations, and develop and present education or continuous-improvement updates.
- Collaborate with internal revenue-cycle-management teams to ensure coding processes, guidelines, and policies are accurately applied.
- Provide educational consultations for internal Coding Department staff and assist with preparation for quality-assurance webinars, quarterly coding meetings, and vendor calibration calls.
- Analyze and trend regular and focused audit results to identify root causes, create and launch targeted education, and monitor audit results to confirm improvement.
- Perform and assist with other department duties as needed.
