Requirements
  • At least 1 year of experience in a behavioral health or medical office setting performing insurance verification, authorization processing, and patient billing.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, electronic health record systems, and insurance portal navigation.
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical, administrative, and billing teams.
  • Cultural sensitivity and respectful communication with diverse populations.
  • Ability to maintain required agency clearances, including drug screening, tuberculosis testing, background check, and driving record review if applicable.
  • Ability to provide front desk registration and appointment scheduling support across multiple locations.
Responsibilities
  • Verify client insurance eligibility, benefits, and behavioral health coverage before service delivery.
  • Prepare, submit, and monitor authorization requests for outpatient mental health services through payer portals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of authorization approvals, denials, and expiration dates in the electronic health record.
  • Communicate authorization updates to clinical, administrative, and billing teams.
  • Reconcile authorizations with scheduled and completed services to ensure compliance and billing accuracy.
  • Collect co-payments and outstanding patient balances according to agency payment policies.
  • Assist the billing department with claim resolution, identify discrepancies, and respond to payer inquiries.
  • Stay current on payer requirements, authorization processes, and benefit structures across major insurance providers.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to client and staff inquiries about insurance coverage, authorizations, and account balances.
  • Perform other duties or special projects assigned by the Practice Manager or agency leadership.
  • Apply the principles of the Recovery Model in interactions with persons served.
  • Adhere to Arundel Lodge policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • Post-secondary coursework or certification in healthcare administration, billing, or insurance processing.
  • Experience using payer web portals.
  • Experience with Credible electronic health record system.
