Electric Hydrogen is searching for Research & Development interns with a passion for tackling climate change to join our Cell Engineering team. This team helps select, synthesize, and optimize materials for next generation designs, scale up manufacturing processes for critical cell components, completes testing to understand key technology failure modes, and facilitates testing for all aspects of technology development. With the company being just two years old, they will get an unparalleled look at the early days of a startup and contribute to bringing the technology from concept to proof point. All interns will have the opportunity to develop communication skills, gain laboratory experience, and learn about electrochemical systems and the energy industry.
This position is based in Natick, MA.

Responsibilities:
Interns will have the opportunity to work on a critical development of the electrolyzer technology including topics like material development, electrochemical understanding, system reliability, vendor evaluation, manufacturing processing scale up, and more. The focus of the internship will depend on the applicant’s interests and company’s research priorities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interns will work closely with senior scientists throughout the internship and day to day tasks may include one or a few of those listed below.
- Synthesize catalyst materials for electrolysis reactions
- Refine ink compositions and develop coating processes for catalyst coated membranes
- Investigate polymer formulations
- Assess material compatibility in electrochemical systems
- Develop manufacturing process of novel electrolyzer cell components
- Identify room for improvement for manufacturing process, equipment, and quality assurance methods
- Assemble R&D-scale electrochemical cells; assess performance with battery test equipment and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)
- Analyze test data and report results out to team; make recommendations for future design iterations
- Design and execute build of test stands for increased testing capacity
- Develop, improve, and document lab procedures such as characterizations/metrologies methods, raw material qualification, synthesis methods, test procedures, and more
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a BS/MS/PhD program at an accredited university, with major of Chemical Engineering/Materials Science and Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Chemistry/Manufacturing Engineering/Physics or related field.
- Ability to pay attention to details
- Previous experience working in a research & development laboratory (in university or in industry) is a plus
Compensation & Benefits:

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job-related skills, as well as relevant education or training and experience.
