  • Pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. in a technical field (computer science/engineering, math, physics, or equivalent)
  • Graduating by August 2028
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States as of the first day of employment, including F-1 students using OPT or STEM
Responsibilities
  • Work on one or more valuable projects during the 10-week Akunacademy experience, progressing from ideation and design to delivery and maintenance
  • Collaborate with Quant and Trading teams and interface with them to focus on a specific domain area while experiencing day-to-day life of a software engineer at Akuna
  • Add functionality onto existing systems or implement brand new componentry
  • Experiment with new technologies and patterns to better understand the solution space
  • Develop high-performance C++ systems that are multi-threaded, asynchronous, and distributed, ensuring reliability, efficiency, scalability, and flexibility
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience programming in modern C++ (C++20 or later; C++23 preferred)
  • Experience with distributed systems
  • Experience with parallel processing
  • Experience with asynchronous architectures
  • Experience with networking or protocol encoding/decoding
  • Experience with lock-free data structures and algorithms
  • Experience with performance profiling tools (perf, gprof, vtune)
  • Experience with scripting such as Python or shell
  • Familiarity with standard debugging tools (GDB, Valgrind, address sanitizer)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders in Quant and Trading to obtain requirements, workshop solutions, and implement roadmaps
  • Ability to react quickly and effectively to rapidly changing market conditions, including solving math and coding problems
  • Passion for building complex systems from the ground up
  • Ability to collaborate with developers of different backgrounds and knowledge levels
  • Intrinsic motivation and ability to work independently
  • Strong sense of ownership and drive to fix bugs
