We are seeking an exceptional design leader to join BillionToOne as the Head of Design. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of design at BillionToOne, spanning brand design, creative design, information design, UX design, and user research. Reporting directly to the Chief Product Officer and serving on the Executive Leadership Team, this role is pivotal in elevating design as a strategic pillar of the company and establishing it as a key competitive differentiator.

The ideal candidate is a visionary and strategic people leader who can mentor and grow in-house designers while effectively managing relationships with external design agencies. They will collaborate closely with Marketing, Product Marketing, and the Software Product teams to create cohesive, impactful, and user-centered designs that enhance BillionToOne’s brand, products, and experiences.

Responsibilities

• Define and champion a company-wide design vision and strategy that aligns with BillionToOne’s mission and business objectives. Effectively work with other executive leaders to move business outcomes through the power of design. 
• Build and lead a world-class design organization spanning brand design, creatives, UX design, and user research.
• Collaborate across Marketing, Product, Engineering, and other stakeholders to ensure design is a strategic differentiator by delivering cohesive visual identities, clear communication of complex concepts, and seamless user experiences.
• Oversee user research to deeply understand customer needs and ensure designs address key pain points.
• Establish design standards, workflows, and processes to ensure efficiency and scalability. 
• Establish and track key design metrics to measure impact on user engagement and brand strength. 
• Advocate for user-centered design principles and drive innovative solutions that differentiate BillionToOne. Leverage emerging technologies such as AI when appropriate.

Requirements

• 10+ years of work experience and 5+ experience of design leadership experience.
• Proven track record of building and leading design organizations at a Director/Sr. Director level.
• Expertise in multiple design disciplines is ideal; at a minimum, UX or information design expertise is required.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Product Marketing, and Product Development.
• Experience working at healthcare, life sciences, or deep-tech companies where design must convey complex information is a strong plus.
• Strong portfolio showcasing design leadership and impactful contributions to branding, UX, and customer experience.
• Visionary leadership with the ability to translate strategic goals into actionable design initiatives.
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to advocate for design at all levels of the organization.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for innovation and customer success.

At BillionToOne, we are proud to offer a combination of a (1) base pay range (actual amount offered is based on experience and salary/equity options split that the candidate chooses), (2) generous equity options offering, (3) corporate bonus program, on top of (4) industry leading company benefits (free healthcare options, 401k match, very generous fully paid parental leave, etc.).

For this position, we offer a total compensation package of $426,000 per year, including a base pay range of $229,500-$255,000per year.
