Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources, industrial relations, actuarial science, commerce or a related field
  • 3 years of experience in compensation
  • The Certified Human Resources Professional (CRHP) designation is an asset
  • Judgment, analytical skills, attention to detail, problem solving, communication skills including strong ability to write job descriptions and other documentation
  • Experience in a variety of compensation programs
  • Presentation skills
  • Ability to liaise with a variety of internal and external contacts and to provide guidance and make recommendations to HR Advisors/Representatives, managers, and supervisors on variety of HR and compensation issues
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Strong experience and knowledge using advanced EXCEL
  • Solid knowledge of job market and compensation trends
  • Knowledge and experience working on large pay equity programs
  • Workday knowledge is an asset
  • Spoken and written English and French
Responsibilities
  • Act as a resource person, working closely with HR Advisors and HR representatives on compensation issues and impacts on pay equity and formulate recommendations
  • Participate in a variety of human resources projects: pay equity calculations and costings (retroactive and future); analyze, review, and recommend various internal guidelines and business process improvements
  • Develop regular pay equity assessments and ad-hoc assessments following significant changes to the salary mass, such as post salary policy
  • Contribute to the implementation and payment of revised salaries following pay equity audits and/or new collective agreements. Ensure the process is timely and streamlined to reduce the cost of retroactive payments. Ensure the accuracy of calculations
  • Participate in developing communications that explain compensation concepts such as the impact of current pay practices on pay equity and provide training to the McGill community
  • Partner with Labour and Employee Relations during collective agreement negotiations to evaluate the impacts of proposals on pay equity and make recommendations. Provide costings during collective agreement negotiations
  • Review and analyze requests for creation of new positions, requests for rematch and other compensation requests including special salary adjustments, hiring salaries, non-base payments, etc. for various employee groups
  • Keep abreast of compensation best practices and make recommendations on how to streamline the management of the pay equity program at the University and other compensation-related files
