Requirements
  • Excellent knowledge of the Pultrusion molding process, materials, molds, and machinery.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and record keeping of test and run data.
  • Verbal and written reasoning and communication ability.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Training to handle emergency response and first aid situations.
  • Reliable and consistent attendance, including punctuality and dependability.
  • Ability to work overtime and remain flexible regarding possible schedule changes.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct all levels of Composite (Pultrusion) set-up technicians and other personnel working with Pultrusion molds and the molding process.
  • Schedule staff for mold changes and oversee mold process control, mold-change component inventory, productivity, part quality, safety, cleanliness, and organization.
  • Review the daily production schedule and set priorities based on customer requirements and available resources.
  • Coordinate activities with personnel in the Composite molding department and supporting departments to accomplish assigned goals and objectives.
  • Provide hands-on supervision and assist with all aspects of molding.
  • Supervise up to 15 employees assigned to the area.
  • Lead and train personnel, assist in identifying equipment issues, and motivate personnel as required.
  • Complete area-supervisor duties, including reporting, review, MOS procedures, disciplinary write-ups, training, and time studies.
  • Set up, start up, process, and troubleshoot thermoset Pultrusion molds, machines, and resins to ensure efficient production of quality products.
  • Perform occasional material handling, blending, maintenance, assembly, packaging, and inventory-control activities as needed.
  • Assist management, engineering, mold maintenance, scheduling, and quality-control departments with mold and material testing.
  • Monitor and enforce department safety and production procedures.
  • Communicate with prior and oncoming shifts to provide work assignments and expectations for achieving the plan.
  • Follow required safety procedures, use personal protective equipment as needed, attend safety meetings, and report equipment or workplace safety issues.
  • Follow department quality standards and raise concerns and issues to the immediate manager.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and work with other shifts to resolve housekeeping issues.
  • Perform packaging-personnel duties when needed to support the production department.
  • Act as back-up manager when the manager is absent.
  • Understand department key performance indicators and contribute to achieving them individually and as a team.
  • Perform other duties as needed or required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certification for forklift operation is desirable but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a group of people to accomplish a predetermined goal.
  • Knowledge to perform all aspects of the Work-in-Process Assembler, Machine Operator, and all Set-up Technician levels.
  • Bilingual Spanish language ability is preferred.
  • Two years of Composite molding experience specifically in the area of set-up, start-up and processing of thermoset Pultrusion molding.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; and speak effectively before groups of employees or customers.
  • Certificates, licenses, and registrations pertaining to the job function are desirable.
