Rivian raises 2026 delivery outlook as R2 demand outpaces production capacity

Rivian Automotive began delivering its mass-market R2 vehicle to customers in June, with management reporting that reservations are converting to orders at rates significantly higher than projected. Many buyers are first-time EV owners or coming from Tesla and R1 models. The main constraint is supply chain capacity, with production currently limited to a single shift at the Normal, Illinois plant. A second shift is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026, though material volume isn't expected until Q4. Rivian's automotive gross loss narrowed to $36 million in Q2 2026, down from $335 million a year earlier. The company raised its 2026 delivery outlook by 3,000 vehicles to 65,000-70,000, with two-thirds expected in the second half. Management maintains its target for positive gross profit by year-end 2026.

Lucid's executive exodus signals crisis while Rivian's CFO transition marks natural evolution

Rivian's CFO Claire McDonough is stepping down after nearly six years to join GE Vernova, whilst Lucid faces a broader executive exodus. McDonough helped steer Rivian through its $13.7 billion IPO and develop strategic partnerships, including a joint venture with Volkswagen. She will remain to ensure a smooth transition. In contrast, Lucid has seen sweeping changes under new CEO Silvio Napoli. Founder Peter Rawlinson resigned abruptly in early 2025, and the company has replaced nearly its entire executive suite. Lucid has also delayed its affordable Cosmos model, pulled production guidance, and hired restructuring firm AlixPartners. Rivian's single departure appears to be an evolution in leadership, whilst Lucid's multiple exits signal deeper operational challenges.

Rivian's Autonomy+ pushes toward Level 4 self-driving.

Rivian's Autonomy+ pushes toward Level 4 self-driving. Product and Machine Design September 08, 2026 Highlights. * Rivian's Autonomy+ system is designed to let owners enter an address and let the vehicle drive to mapped destinations in the U.S. and Canada. * The company plans to debut the system on the R2 SUV by roughly the end of this year and later add it to newer R1S and R1T models through over-the-air updates. * Rivian is also building toward Level 4 autonomy, including a planned robotaxi fleet starting in 2028 and consumer-car capabilities later on. Rivian is pushing its self-driving program with Autonomy+, a point-to-point system intended to let drivers enter a destination and let the SUV handle the trip on mapped roads in the U.S. and Canada. The system is described as one of the most advanced semiautonomous-driving systems coming to market. It is planned for the R2 SUV by roughly the end of this year and for newer R1S and R1T models through over-the-air updates. The company says Autonomy+ is a Level 2+ system, meaning a human driver must remain attentive and ready to take control. Rivian is working toward Level 3 and Level 4 autonomy, while rivals such as Tesla, Toyota, Mercedes, Volkswagen, and BYD are pursuing similar goals. Rivian has said its strategy combines cameras, radar, lidar, in-house silicon chips, and an AI autonomy model. Rivian also has major commercial plans tied to autonomy. Backed by $1.25 billion from Uber, the company plans to start a fleet of self-driving Level 4 robotaxis in 2028, beginning in San Francisco and Miami before expanding to 25 cities in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Rivian says showroom vehicles could begin adopting some Level 4 capabilities by 2030, possibly starting with self-parking functions. To support that path, Rivian has built its own Autonomy Processor, reduced the ECU count in its latest vehicles, and moved to a zonal architecture. The company says the new Autonomy Compute Module is eight times as powerful as before and 60% smaller. Rivian's engineers say the system is designed to scale from Level 2+ toward higher levels of autonomy, with data from connected vehicles and monthly over-the-air updates helping refine the model. company spotlight EXP. How smart carts and autonomous driving are shaping the future.

How smart carts and autonomous driving are shaping the future. Published By: Antonio Robles Robles.AI Build AI That Earns Trust. AI Assistant: Clara Buzz Imagining tomorrow's cities, today. September 7, 2026 at 05:00 PM PDT Smart Cities Autonomous Vehicles Stock Market Table of contents. Smart shopping carts: A new era in retail. Did you know that using a smart shopping cart could increase your grocery spending by 32%? According to a study conducted by Bayes Business School at City St George's, University of London, shoppers who opted for smart carts spent significantly more than those using regular carts. The study analyzed over 12,418 shopping sessions, discovering that smart-cart users not only bought 25% more items but also spent 23% more time in the store. Smart carts are equipped with tablet-style screens on the handle, offering digital shopping lists, personalized recommendations, and in-store navigation. These carts employ a variety of sensors and cameras to track what items are placed in or removed from the cart, and they even allow for checkout-free payment. As Dr. Sabrina Gottschalk, lead author of the study, notes, "The findings suggest retailers could see significant revenue gains from the technology." The implications for the retail industry are profound, as stores can use these carts to increase engagement and revenue. With companies like Amazon expanding their Dash Cart technology to more Whole Foods locations, and Instacart deploying AI-powered Caper Carts in over 100 cities, the adoption of smart carts is on the rise. This technology not only enhances the shopping experience but also serves as a new platform for advertising and product recommendations. From a broader perspective, the integration of AI into everyday shopping habits reflects a growing trend towards personalized and data-driven consumer experiences. As smart carts become more prevalent, they will likely reshape how Robles.AI interact with retail environments, making shopping more intuitive and tailored to individual needs. Rivian's ambitious push for full autonomy. In the realm of autonomous vehicles, Rivian is making bold strides with its Autonomy+ system, aiming to surpass Tesla in achieving Level 4 self-driving capabilities. As of May 2026, Rivian's CEO, RJ Scaringe, has been overseeing the production of R2 SUVs at the company's facility in Normal, Illinois. These vehicles are equipped with an advanced system allowing for point-to-point autonomous driving across the U.S. and Canada. Rivian's Autonomy+ system integrates a sophisticated suite of cameras, radar, and lidar, alongside a custom set of silicon chips designed to process sensor data. This system, classified as Level 2+, requires human oversight but is a stepping stone towards fully autonomous vehicles. Rivian plans to release this system on its R2 SUV by the end of the year, offering it at a competitive price of $49.99 per month. The impact of Rivian's technology on the automotive industry is significant. With $1.25 billion in backing from Uber, Rivian aims to deploy a fleet of Level 4 robotaxis by 2028. This move positions Rivian as a formidable contender against established players like Tesla, which has faced delays in its own autonomous vehicle timelines. According to Bryan Reimer from MIT, "Rivian developed an architecture so important that VW is spending billions to buy it." Rivian's focus on autonomy reflects a broader industry trend towards self-driving technology, driven by advancements in AI and data processing. As automakers race to achieve higher levels of autonomy, the future of transportation looks increasingly automated and interconnected, promising to transform urban mobility and redefine personal transportation. Sensex and Nifty: navigating market volatility. In the world of finance, the Indian stock market experienced notable fluctuations as the Sensex dropped 555.23 points to 75,577.58, and the Nifty 50 fell by 144.05 points to close at 23,635.10 on September 8, 2026. This volatility was amplified by the closing auction session mechanism introduced in August, coinciding with a rise in Brent crude prices to $98.4 a barrel following geopolitical tensions. The technical aspects of the stock market's performance are influenced by various factors, including sectoral movements and currency fluctuations. The rupee depreciated to 94.8175 per dollar, while eight of the 16 major domestic sectors recorded losses, notably in financials and private banks. In contrast, defense and media sectors outperformed, demonstrating the diverse dynamics at play. For investors and market analysts, these fluctuations underscore the importance of strategic investment and diversification. With companies like Tata Consultancy Services securing significant contracts and HDFC Securities expanding its global investing platform, there are opportunities amidst the volatility. Vikas Gupta from OmniScience Capital highlights the potential for India to benefit from rising foreign portfolio investor allocations. Reflecting on these developments, it's evident that the Indian stock market is navigating a complex landscape shaped by both domestic and international factors. As investors adapt to these changes, the focus on emerging sectors and innovative financial products will be crucial in driving future growth and stability. Where Robles.AI fits. 10 cars their owners would buy again in a heartbeat.

10 cars their owners would buy again in a heartbeat. John Tallodi Sat, September 5, 2026 at 3:01 PM PDT Autoblog and Yahoo may earn commission from links in this article. Does your car make you smile every time you drive it? Do you look back at it when you park it in the garage? These subjective measurements of owner satisfaction vary between individuals and are based on personal preferences. That bare-bones two-seater sports car may have a special place in your heart, but it wouldn't get a second look from someone who prefers to waft along in silent luxury. Consumer Reports attempts to quantify this by conducting an annual Owner Satisfaction Survey, and while the final scores include measurable aspects like performance, ride comfort, and ownership costs, they also include the subjective side by getting feedback from owners with real-world experience of these vehicles. In its latest survey, Consumer Reports rated 26 brands to see which ones came out on top, and for 2026, Rivian, BMW, Subaru, Tesla and Ford placed in the top five spots. But there were specific models from across the board that outperformed their stablemates, and Incite D dug into the data to unearth which ones made their owners the happiest of all. Note: Incite D use Consumer Reports as a trusted source because it relies on feedback from actual owners with real-world experience, and conducts its own independent testing procedures which provide an unbiased set of results not influenced by advertisers or manufacturers. The Owner Satisfaction score indicates how likely an owner is to buy the same car again. Which vehicles are the most satisfying to own? View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article | Make and Model | Owner Satisfaction Score | | Rivian R1T | 91% | | Chevrolet Corvette | 88% | | Land Rover Defender | 88% | | Porsche 911 | 85% | | Tesla Model Y | 82% | | BMW i5 | 81% | | Mini Cooper | 81% | | Kia Carnival Hybrid | 80% | | BMW X5 | 80% | | Cadillac Optiq | 80% | Owner satisfaction comprises several factors and as the data shows, logic does not always play a starring role in the decision-making process. Some of its best performers aren't even from the brands that made the top 10 list, while others are so dismally unreliable that arriving at your destination is a bonus not a guarantee. Yet, based on a variety of assessments and owner feedback, they all performed above and beyond their owner's expectations and these are the ones that would seriously consider buying the same car again. 3rd place: Land Rover Defender 88%. With a road test score of a middling 60/100 and a predicted reliability score of a scary 30/100, the Land Rover Defender was also rated low on braking, agility, fuel economy and rearward visibility. Clearly none of this bothers its owners, as its impressive off-road ability, acceleration and interior practicality shot it to third place overall in the owner satisfaction rankings. Value-for-money was the one area where some owners felt they weren't getting as much as they expected. As a brand, Land Rover is hopelessly unreliable, and the most expensive to maintain, yet the fact that 'character' was one of the high points for the Defender shows that at a certain level, none of the things that bother most commuters applies anymore. 2nd place: Chevrolet Corvette 88%. The C8 range took the value-for-money formula that Corvette has always majored in, and applied it to a new mid-engined platform. It is hard to imagine any rival that offers more performance for the money, and the latest models challenge supercars in outright pace. It's no surprise then that the 2026 corvette scored a 97/100 in the Road Test segment, and it got a decent 68/100 for Predicted Reliability, too. Owners rated it highly in most segments, aside from value. There really is no pleasing some people. It may have poor fuel economy, be difficult to get into and out of, and offer minimal rearward visibility, but none of these matter when every model in the range overdelivers where it counts in a sports car: performance. 1st place: Rivian R1T 91%. Ford, Chevy and Ram may have the majority of the full-size truck segment all to themselves, but a relative newcomer beats them all when it comes to customer satisfaction. The Rivian R1T truck is 50% rocket ship, 50% workhorse, and 50% luxury vehicle. That adds up to 150%, and that's because the R1T over delivers everywhere except when it comes to reliability. Its 18/100 result is close to the worst score recorded of any vehicle tested, thankfully most are still covered by the factory warranty. But owners didn't care about electrical glitches, or wayward drivetrains and only marked it down for its massive base price, rating it close to perfect on the driving experience, comfort and styling metrics. The final 91/100 owner satisfaction score is the highest of any vehicle for 2026. See, logic has very little to do with what makes owners love or hate their cars. Clearly a vehicle's character still has a big impact on enjoyment, even when it comes to EVs.
