Requirements
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • Assist patients with limited English proficiency using a language interpretation program or service.
  • Obtain accurate patient insurance, demographic, and other information required for registration.
  • Obtain patient signatures on all required forms.
  • Follow recommended infection control measures.
  • Perform physical job location changes at four-hour intervals during the shift.
  • Work in a 24/7 high-volume emergency department environment.
Responsibilities
  • Register patients for ancillary departments and admit inpatients.
  • Escort patients and serve as a liaison to physicians, nurses, and other department personnel regarding registration and admission.
  • Answer incoming Emergency Department phone calls.
  • Assemble Emergency Department discharge packets.
  • Collect copayments at the time of service when applicable.
  • Cover other registration clerk locations as needed.
  • Monitor the waiting room to maintain an appropriate and timely flow of patients needing registration or admission.
  • Pre-admit patients in advance of their arrival.
  • Promote awareness and enrollment in Financial Assistance, the patient portal, Advantage 50, and other hospital programs as applicable.
  • Receive patients, including ambulance arrivals, into SBL’s HIM system using available resources to connect patients to the correct medical record.
  • Register patients receiving outpatient and inpatient services at the Health Center in a timely manner.
  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the registration waiting area.
  • Electronically verify insurance coverage.
  • Monitor the Entrance E canopy and vestibule and ensure staff presence in the Emergency Department lobby at all times.
  • Handle non-clinical patient requests as able.
  • Perform duties outlined in Policy & Procedure during specified codes, including Code Alert and Code Plan D.
  • Work directly with Patient Services coworkers, Emergency Department staff, and other hospital staff to facilitate a positive health care experience for patients.
  • Show patience and compassion to visitors and patients waiting for or receiving emergent care.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
