Requirements
  • At least 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, internal controls, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Extensive experience managing accounts payable, payroll, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience managing the general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, month-end and year-end close, annual audits, grant and contract accounting, and tax reporting using Forms 1099 and 1042.
  • Proven ability to lead accounting functions, prioritize competing deadlines, and drive operational improvements.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and make strategic recommendations.
  • Ability to present financial information to executive leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Direct all accounting operations, including the general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, financial reporting, and month-end and year-end close.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, company policies, and federal and state regulations.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Monitor organizational cash flow and financial performance.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Develop executive-level financial reports and dashboards.
  • Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning.
  • Oversee the accounts payable function from invoice receipt through payment.
  • Review invoices, expense reports, and payment requests for accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain vendor relationships and resolve payment discrepancies.
  • Oversee corporate credit card reconciliations and expense management.
  • Manage payroll processing and related accounting functions.
  • Oversee payroll tax reporting and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage annual Form 1099 and Form 1042 reporting requirements.
  • Oversee financial management of grants and government contracts.
  • Monitor grant expenditures and funding compliance.
  • Prepare grant financial reports and reimbursement requests.
  • Support contract billing and financial analysis.
  • Coordinate annual financial audits and prepare supporting documentation.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with preparation of Form 990 and other required financial filings, as applicable.
  • Lead accounting system implementations, upgrades, and enterprise resource planning conversions.
  • Evaluate accounting workflows and recommend process improvements.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency through automation and technology.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and oversight to accounting staff.
  • Partner with department leaders to support organizational objectives and financial decision-making.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA or CMA certification.
  • Experience supporting nonprofit, government contracting, or grant-funded organizations.
  • Experience with ERP implementations or accounting system conversions.
  • Experience with Oracle, NetSuite, QuickBooks Online and Desktop, CMiC, ADP, Paylocity, TriNet, Sovos, Salesforce, advanced Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite.
