Overview:
The Director of Tax will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of tax compliance, planning, and reporting for the Americas region (including South America), for both income tax and indirect taxes Indirect taxes including sales and use taxes, property taxes, unclaimed property, VAT, etc.
This position requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of US tax laws and regulations and experience for a multinational company operating in South America and Canada, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and within the Global Tax Function.
The role will manage a team of 3 people and it will report into the Head of Tax. This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in the office.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the company’s tax position while ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Lead tax planning initiatives to minimize the company’s tax liabilities and maximize tax efficiencies.
- Lead research, interpretation of changes in tax laws and regulations and assess the impact on the company’s tax position.
- Provide guidance and support to other departments on tax-related matters, including structuring transactions, contract review, and financial planning.
- Manage the Global transfer pricing policy for the Americas to ensure compliance with local laws and regulations.
- Strategic management of indirect tax, such as sales tax, VAT/GST and use tax, governance and compliance and promote automation.
- A strong knowledge on implementing ERP changes with a clear focus on process automation to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Manage the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, including income, sales/use, property, and other applicable taxes.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate completion of tax filings and compliance requirements.
- Manage relationships with tax authorities and respond to inquiries or audits as necessary.
- Supervise and develop a team of tax professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and opportunities for growth.
- Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting of tax liabilities and provisions.
- Assist in due diligence and integration activities for mergers, acquisitions, and other business transactions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
- Extensive experience (15+ years) in corporate tax, with a focus on US tax and international laws and regulations.
- Strong technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance and reporting requirements.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing tax strategies that drive business value.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Experience managing and developing a team of tax professionals.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Experience with tax software and ERP systems; proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- High level of integrity and professionalism.
Salary Range:
$169,300.00 - $282,300.00
This pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation that the position offers, and final compensation can vary within the range depending on work location, job experience, skills, and relevant educational attainment and/or training.
