Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field is required.
  • At least 5 years of progressive financial leadership experience and at least 10 years of overall experience are required in hospitality, resort operations, real estate development, or a similarly complex operating environment.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary strategic Finance advisor and partner to the Resort President and Senior Leadership Team, providing financial leadership and business insight to drive profitability, support enterprise priorities, and improve resort performance.
  • Lead the development and execution of the resort’s financial strategy in partnership with regional and corporate Finance leaders, aligning planning, forecasting, capital investment, performance management, and long-term financial objectives with regional and enterprise expectations.
  • Translate financial results and operations data into actionable business recommendations by identifying performance drivers, evaluating risks and opportunities, informing key decisions, and ensuring accountability for measurable outcomes and sustained business improvement.
  • Serve as the resort Finance lead for financial performance management, connecting results, forecasts, risks, and opportunities to measurable action plans.
  • Partner with resort leaders and enterprise stakeholders to evaluate strategic initiatives, investments, operating model changes, long-range planning, annual planning, major investment decisions, new revenue opportunities, partnerships, guest experience investments, and operating model changes by assessing financial return, risk, labor impact, capital requirements, and long-term enterprise value.
  • Translate resort, operational, and commercial objectives into financial targets, performance metrics, and decision-support frameworks while reinforcing accountability among functional leaders for execution and results.
  • Lead the resort forecasting process with resort, regional, and corporate leadership and support monthly and in-season business reviews with analysis that leads to decisions, owners, timelines, and measurable outcomes.
  • Own the resort risks and opportunities process, ensuring financial impacts are quantified, tied to operational drivers, and supported by mitigation or capture plans.
  • Develop financial narratives for monthly business reviews, forecasts, annual planning, long-range planning, and regional or enterprise review forums.
  • Partner with the Regional Vice President of Finance to identify cross-resort trends, performance gaps, benchmarking insights, and opportunities with broader regional or enterprise application.
  • Lead long-term capital planning oversight for the resort, aligning development projects, maintenance capital, operational capital investment, return expectations, and long-term financial strategy.
  • Provide financial oversight for investment return diligence, including risks, opportunities, strategic rationale, financial return, operating impact, guest impact, and labor implications.
  • Support development of business cases and partner with the Regional Vice President of Finance to ensure capital requests are evaluated consistently across the region and aligned with regional and enterprise expectations.
  • Partner with the Finance Team to monitor resort maintenance capital, assess large capital requests, and track post-approval performance of major capital investments against original business case assumptions.
  • Collaborate with corporate development, real estate, treasury, accounting, shared services, and other enterprise partners on resort development projects, acquisitions, new builds, expansion opportunities, and major strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee financial governance, internal controls, and regulatory compliance across resort financial operations.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, corporate financial policies, and applicable regulatory financial standards.
  • Reinforce standard Finance and Accounting processes and prevent reliance on informal workarounds or relationship-based exceptions.
  • Develop working capital optimization strategies in coordination with Corporate Treasury.
  • Help shift Finance from reactionary reporting to proactive business partnership connected to measurable business outcomes.
  • Support meeting discipline by identifying decisions, owners, due dates, risks, dependencies, and communication needs.
  • Reinforce clear decision rights between the Resort President, Senior Leadership Team leaders, Finance, Regional Finance, and corporate partners.
  • Create trust-based accountability through clear expectations, policies, guardrails, follow-up, and measurable outcomes.
  • Develop the finance and analyst teams into stronger business partners with operational curiosity, root cause orientation, and action-based support.
  • Support Lodging and resort leadership with financial analysis, reporting, controls, and transparency related to owner, homeowners association, and lodging-managed services.
  • Partner with Lodging, Accounting, Shared Services, and other stakeholders to manage homeowners association-related financial activity in alignment with agreements, reporting expectations, and enterprise standards.
  • Provide financial support for owner- or homeowners association-related matters intersecting with resort financial planning, risk assessment, or enterprise reporting.
  • Serve as the primary resort Finance partner to the Regional Vice President of Finance, Corporate Financial Planning and Analysis, Accounting, Treasury, Development, Shared Services, auditors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Partner with the Regional Vice President of Finance on regional performance reviews, benchmarking, financial storytelling, and escalation of resort-level risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure the Resort President and Senior Leadership Team understand regional and enterprise Finance expectations.
  • Translate corporate and regional Finance direction into practical resort-level actions.
  • Work with Alterra’s corporate finance, development, real estate, treasury, accounting, and shared services teams on financial planning, reporting, funding strategies, and strategic initiatives.
Desired Qualifications
  • An MBA, Certified Public Accountant designation, or equivalent experience is preferred.

Deer Valley unveils fresh trail map with new chairlifts, terrain. The new map, hand-painted by renowned artist rad smith, highlights seven additional chairlifts and nearly 80 new ski runs debuting this winter. Deer Valley has released its updated trail map for this ski season, illustrating the latest phase of the resort's expansion. Deer Valley's skiable terrain now totals more than 4,300 acres, more than double the resort's original footprint. The expanded terrain includes the new 10-passenger East Village Express gondola connecting the new base area along U.S. Highway 40 to trails at Park Peak. Deer Valley's buildout will continue in the years ahead with additional terrain and lifts planned for Hail Peak in 2026-2027 season, followed by future development on South Peak in later phases.
